Mary John Awarded for Life-Changing Work in Social Transformation
Mary John, a champion for social transformation, received the Governor General’s Faithful and Meritorious Service Award – The Silver Medal for Community and Charitable Work in the Field of Social Transformation on December 5, 2024.
Once battling addiction herself, John’s journey of resilience and redemption has driven her to transform the lives of others.
Celebrating 21 years of sobriety, she founded the Mary John Transformation of Lives Incorporated Foundation, an initiative dedicated to addressing addiction, homelessness, and abuse.
Her work has directly impacted vulnerable individuals, including guiding several young men toward sobriety and stability.
In 2023, she was honoured with the Sandals World Humanitarian Day Award for her efforts with the homeless, abuse survivors, and disaster victims.
John’s mantra, inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” reflects her unwavering commitment to building a compassionate society.
Her recognition is a testament to her tireless advocacy and her belief in the power of redemption.
