Prime Minister Gaston Browne has heaped praises on St. Mary’s South candidate Samantha Marshall saying that she could become Antigua & Barbuda’s first female head of government.
Browne told a meeting to endorse his lone female government minister that he saw promise in Marshall many years ago.
“I also said to them that comrade Samantha Marshall would become the first elected female member of parliament for the Antigua Barbuda Labour Party. I also said to them that we will have the first elected female minister on the ABLP slate” he told supporters in Bolans.
Describing Marshall as the rose among the thorns Browne said: “she has held her own within the cabinet.”
“I have seen her maturing over the years, and I have to tell you, she has the capacity to become the first female prime minister of this country,” he added.
The ABLP leader asked residents in St. Mary’s South to “hold on to comrade Samantha Marshall.”
He said she has served as his “social conscience” within the cabinet and has performed at the community and national level.
Marshall is one of two candidates contesting on behalf of the ABLP this election, the other is Browne’s wife, Maria Browne.
