Man Injured in All Saints Kitchen Fire Sparked by Gas Tank Mishap

A kitchen fire broke out in All Saints after a cooking gas tank was accidentally activated during the use of a new stove, triggering a loud explosion.

The homeowner’s brother was injured after receiving an electric shock while trying to help extinguish the blaze. He was treated at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre and later discharged.

Firefighters from the All Saints station, assisted by relatives using buckets of water, managed to bring the fire under control. The incident caused damage to louvers, a kitchen wall, and the back of the stove, but was largely contained to the kitchen.

  3. We need to be very careful with some of these stoves we buy! They always say not everything that glitters is gold and this stands for some of these stoves that look so good but not good at all

  4. You never know when something like a gas explosion can happen. It’s a terrifying thought.

  7. From a technicians standpoint:
    1. Is the appliance bi-fuel? (LPG or NG)
    2. If so, we’re the orifices replaced accordingly?
    3. Was there a “proper” check for leaks?
    4. We’re all knobs in the off position?
    5. Does it’s oven have a pilot which needs to be lit?

Most, if not all, of these appliances that use gas are bu-fuel. Meaning they can use either Natural Gas (NG) or Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG). The orifices (holes the gas comes out of) are different in size according to which gas you are using. Again, most if not all, these appliances come with the NG orifices installed and as such would need to be replaced before use. If not provided in the original packaging, as is the case some times, the correct orifices will need to be purchased and installed by a qualified technician.

    You have been educated.

  8. @ The Technician, many thanks, you may well have saved lives with this very important information, insight and information 👍🏾
