A jury on Wednesday found a man in his late 40s guilty of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl, bringing to a close a trial that began in July under the direction of Justice Ann Marie Smith.
The assaults occurred in December 2021, when the man, then 45, was the romantic partner of a family friend where the child had been staying for a weekend.
Prosecutors said he entered her bedroom while she slept and touched her, frightening her. He later returned to escalate the assault, and during a separate incident, pulled her from a shower and assaulted her again despite her attempts to resist.
The jury returned a guilty verdict after deliberating on the evidence. Smith denied the defendant’s request to remain free on bail. Sentencing is set for Oct. 24.

Queen I am in agreement with you- people move away, people die , frustration to re- live after 4 long years people just forget about it. They even go longer than four years. I had a cousin that was assaulted by her stepfather when she was 9 years. When the case called she was in her teens. The little skinny, fleshless, bony looking, no physical body little child he raped and if that case was tried then he would have gone to jail for long time- had disappeared. In the court was a young lady in her teens, with hips, well built. I said to myself they were seeing a woman and not the little child he raped.
People die in Antigua before getting their pension. People die before getting cases settled for wrongful dismissal in the courts.
Look at the case with the two medical students that got run over on Friars Hill road. One died and the other a multiple amputee. How much years now there children family has been coming to Antigua. Just to hear the case is put off , over and over and over again.
