Derrick George has been fined $1000 after pleading guilty to possession of a controlled drug and the cultivation of 29.5 pounds of cannabis.

The fine was handed down yesterday after George was found in possession of the drugs, valued at $59,000, in 2016.

George was subsequently charged with the offences. He was ordered to pay  $500 for each of the two counts by December 31 or spend six months in jail for each count. The sentences were ordered to run concurrently.

The cannabis was discovered when police came to investigate an alleged robbery at the home. When the house was searched the police then discovered three crocus bags with eight packages containing a bushy substance resembling cannabis in the basement.

    • The faster we stop immigration from Jamaica and D.R., the faster these problems will stop.

  1. There is something amiss here. Why he was only fine $1,000 for 29.5 lbs of cannabis.I have seen where others were fine much more for less cannabis in the Courts.

    • What is really “amiss here” is that Lovell has lost more elections than he has won but is still the leader of the UPP. How can that be?? I agree with you that something is really amiss here.

    • I agree.. such inconsistency with sentencing … $59000 in street value obviously to distribute and sell and he gets fined a simple $1000 … no time in jail !?! Wow!

He’s a drug dealer, look at the amount he was found with … this wasn’t even punitive to him, charging him a big amount to deter him since he can obviously pay $1000 so tell me !?!

I guess he is a working for a ‘BIG MAN’ who is obviously pulling the strings …

  2. I know of people who were first time offender have been convicted and fined $2,400 for 63.2 grams or less for marijuana. There are about 453.592 gram in one pound.

  3. The court system is the problem especially if you’re in competition with those in authority or of the law for the same drugs.
