The man accused of hitting Antigua and Barbuda national cyclist Jomari King with a vehicle has made his first court appearance.
Denroy Palmer appeared in court on Wednesday to answer to a charge of “coming into contact” relating to the incident, which occurred on 2 July in Collins. The case was adjourned until 8 September.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver fled the scene after the collision. King did not suffer serious injuries.
The incident has revived calls from the cycling community for stronger road safety measures.
In May 2022, fellow national cyclist Andre Simon was struck in a similar incident and later died from his injuries.

Hope he’s placed behind bars until the next court hearing. Hitting someone and driving away
Just thanking God that the young many pulled through with minor injuries! We all know the direction this could’ve gone in
the irresponsibility of our drivers now a days leaves alot to be desired
God has been good to this young man that he walked out with minor injuries. But it’s disheartening to know the driver fled the scene and has only been charged for coming in contact. It’s clear that this man has no regards for the life of others. I hope justice is served.
Thank God that he is alive
