Man Acquitted in Stolen TV Case as Court Cites Flawed Police Investigation

1

A man accused of receiving a stolen smart TV has been acquitted, with the court primarily attributing the verdict to a flawed police investigation.

The case, presided over by Justice Ann-Marie Smith, concluded on Friday, finding the defendant not guilty of receiving a TV reportedly stolen from the Boys Training School, valued at nearly $1,800.

The incident in question traces back to April 24, 2020, when a break-in occurred at the Willikies-based institution.

Despite allegations that the defendant had purchased a stolen TV, Justice Smith found the investigation to have “fallen woefully short” due to conflicting police testimonies, documentation lapses, and an unclear chain of custody regarding the stolen TV.
