The Republic of Malta has donated 30 ballistic vests to the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF), strengthening ties between the two nations and enhancing local security capabilities.

Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene said the donation reflects his ministry’s commitment, alongside the High Commission in London, to securing vital support for national security.

He praised the ABDF’s role in safeguarding the country, pointing to their dedication as a pillar of national safety.

The vests, offering Level 4 protection, were first discussed during a military forum last year.

Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Telbert Benjamin credited officials from both governments for facilitating the gift.

Already in use during recent Carnival celebrations, the vests form part of broader efforts to boost the ABDF’s resources through training, equipment, and coastal patrols.

Since diplomatic ties were established in 2004, Malta and Antigua and Barbuda have collaborated on several initiatives, including technical training for Antigua Public Utilities Authority staff.
