Magnitude 3.7 earthquake felt near Antigua

A magnitude 3.7 earthquake was recorded in the eastern Caribbean early on Wednesday morning, according to preliminary data from the UWI Seismic Research Centre.

The tremor occurred at 06:51 local time (10:51 UTC) at a depth of 17 kilometres.

Its epicentre was located at latitude 16.77 north and longitude 61.14 west, placing it about 87 kilometres north-west of Saint John’s.

The quake was also located near Point-à-Pitre, approximately 72 kilometres to the south-west, and Brades, about 119 kilometres to the west.

There have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The Seismic Research Centre said the event was automatically detected and analysed by computer systems, and remains subject to revision following further review by its analysts.
