Magistrate gives order to remove tourists who broke into guest house

(Trumpet) Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh earlier this week granted a removal order for two visitors to the island who were recently convicted of breaking and entering.

Konstantin Fokin from Romania and Predor Iosif from Estonia were seen on video breaking into the EKO Cozy guest house in Ottos on September 11.

They were seen moving back and forth between their room and the office. The daytime manager of the guest house was contacted, and the matter was reported to the police.

According the men’s lawyer, Arthur Thomas Jnr, 32-year-old Fokin and 20-year-old Iosif broke into the office in an attempt to retrieve their passports.

Thomas said that the men became anxious and were “driven by desperation” when their passports were taken from them since they are foreigners.

Having already spent 3 months on remand, they were sentenced to time served on Friday.

They have now been remanded into the custody of the Immigration department and will be removed from the country this weekend.

  1. When they checked into that Guest House. Why were their Passports taken by the Manager of said Guest House.I have come into Antigua and checked into Hotels around the Island.Never had anyone ask me for my Passport. This smells fishy to say the least. For ID purposes,I would show my drivers license.

  2. Investigations should be launched into the activities of guest houses that take hold of the passports of their ‘guests’.

  3. If you are not the immigration or police on the island taking visitors passports is an illegal act,the guest house owner should be held for questioning, sometimes these are the behavioural signs related with human trafficking .

  4. That's not fair .Lock them up and deport them but who took their passports just walk around business as usual ? They too should be arrested . This is one weird story That's not fair .Lock them up and deport them but who took their passports just walk around business as usual ? They too should be arrested . This is one weird story

If the white boys need to learn a lesson then the black boy/boys who took their passports need to learn a lesson too !

  5. Agreed. Guest House and Hotel manages should NOT be allowed to take away peoples passports. Only the police can do that.

  6. So where’s the punishment for the guest house? What authority do they have to hold on to the people’s passports? This was a private dispute. That should have ended differently.
