‘Made of Finest Steel’: Browne Says He Will Not Be Broken by Political Attacks
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has described himself as “made of the finest steel,” insisting he remains unshaken by decades of political attacks from his opponents.
Speaking during an interview on Browne and Browne, the Prime Minister reflected on what he called a long-standing campaign of personal and political vilification, particularly by opposition forces in Antigua and Barbuda.
“I’ve been targeted from the moment I entered politics in 1999,” Browne said. “But I told them then, and I say again now: Gaston Browne is made of the finest steel.”
The Prime Minister said that despite years of attempts to discredit him, he has remained focused on national development, noting that he continues to lead the country through successive economic challenges while pursuing transformative projects. He added that political attacks, even when relentless, have only strengthened his resolve.
Browne accused opposition parties of moving beyond criticism to the deliberate fabrication of misinformation, particularly over recent allegations concerning the Alfa Nero yacht sale. He reiterated that all financial transactions linked to the matter were accounted for and insisted that no wrongdoing had occurred.
“These people fabricate lies, and then they start to believe their own lies,” he said. “But I will continue to stand firm, fight fire with fire, and steel with steel.”
Browne also reflected on his personal resilience, sharing that throughout his political career he had been subjected to ridicule, harsh commentary, and misinformation but had remained committed to public service.
“I am a happy man,” he said. “Despite the noise, I enjoy my life, I continue to serve, and I will not allow their hatred to define my future or my leadership.”
The Prime Minister’s comments come amid ongoing legal battles abroad and intensifying political rhetoric at home. Yet, he made clear that, in his view, no amount of external pressure or internal political hostility would deter him from his course.
“I stand in the truth always,” Browne said. “And the truth will always prevail.”
