Former political leader Harold Lovell has paid tribute to two of All Saints West’s oldest residents in celebration of World Senior Citizens Day.
Mr Lovell visited Christopher Neville Browne, aged 102, of Freemans Village, and Denzil Cummings, aged 100, of Seaview Farm, describing them as “embodying strength, wisdom, and the beauty of a life well-lived”.
In a statement, he emphasised the importance of respecting and supporting older citizens, saying: “If you want to know the heart of a village, listen to its elders.”
The visit comes ahead of a free community health fair planned for Sunday at the Buckleys School Grounds, aimed at supporting seniors with health screenings, wellness sessions, and activities.
Mr Lovell said the initiative was designed to keep older residents “active, vibrant, and thriving”.
World Senior Citizens Day is observed annually to recognise the contributions and resilience of older people worldwide.

I have such mix feeling about articles like this, it feels so fake but I get why you would make it public. I respect stories like this about politicians more when hearing it from word of mouth doing honourary actions but overall pretty cool learning about the elders of the nation that lived through well more than 3 of my lifetimes.
The health screening is a really good initiative and support any government to improve public healthcare and expand it’s benefits.

Love that this was done in All Saints West. Too often, rural communities are overlooked in these kinds of celebrations.
The gesture would have been nice if it were not political and they didn’t even try to pretty up the gifts by gift wrapping them. Just look at the tacky brown paper bag!!! Chuuuupsss.
