The Loss and Damage Fund, crucial for developing nations, has scheduled its inaugural board meeting for late April, following its approval at COP28 last year.

The board, featuring Peter Abraham Jr from Antigua and Barbuda, will meet in Abu Dhabi from April 30 to May 2, 2024, to discuss implementation.

The World Bank will oversee the fund’s operations and serve as its trustee, pending board approval by mid-April. Finalizing the hosting agreement with the board is expected by July’s end.

Despite receiving around US$700 million in pledges, including significant contributions from the United States and the United Arab Emirates, advocates stress the need for billions to effectively assist the most climate-affected nations.
