Litter Wardens Issue Over 50k In Tickets

With the newly installed litter wardens already making waves across the island and a second batch expected to be deployed shortly, the statistics for three of the last four months of 2019 have been revealed.

Overall Statistical Data for the period September 2019 – 30th November 2019

The Total number of Tickets issued stands at 33, while the total fines amount to fifty one thousand EC ($51,000.00)

There have been 14 successful cases which includes 12 individuals and two companies while the amount paid so far into the Magistrate Court stands at twenty two thousand EC ($22,000.)
The remaining 19 tickets comes up to an Outstanding balance of $29,000.00…

  1. This is long overdue! I am ashamed of the amount of litter and garbage our visitors have to see everyday on all of our roadsides. Have we no self respect in this country?! Hoping it gets better now.

      Do know that there are some ‘…naïve and deceitful ones’ out there.

      Would be damned, if there is none.

      Unfortunately, many of the ‘…naïve and deceitful ones’ appeared to have completely missed the ‘…main focus’ in this news story.

      It is neither about ‘…keeping the City and roadsides, nor other places clean.’ No Sah.

      The irrefutable truth is, it speaks to a ‘…Revenue Generating Machine.’

      In the news, the Litter Wardens are said to be ‘…Making waves across the island’ [ANR: Paragraph I].

      Do know that waves are rolled over at sea and then rush ashore or over land.

      These ‘…Waves’ are certainly not moderate.

      Not sure if the ‘…Meteorologists at V.C, Bird International Airport,’ or the ‘…Seismic Center in Trinidad and Tobago’ can give early warning.

      But at the rate these ‘…Waves are rushing into the pockets of persons,’ soon the Treasury could experience a ‘…Money Tsunami.’

      These ‘…Waves’ are expected to churn out sufficient money to facilitate construction of ‘…modern sanitary facilities in the City environs.’

      It gives ‘…Wavy’ statistical data of what has already been churned;

      (i) … Issuance of Tickets – 33;

      (ii) …Substantial hefty fines, (in fact Fixed Penalties) of some $51, 000 .00.’

      Administratively, these penalties may be paid into the Court Clerk, without standing before a Magistrate.

      Still, there is no certainty that such option would be taken by persons so ticketed.

      (iii) …14 Successful Cases -(12 individuals and 2 Companies);

      With no specifics, it can ‘…reasonably be inferred’ that the ticketed persons may have ‘…appeared before the Court.’

      (iv) …Remaining (outstanding) Tickets 19;

      (v) …Fixed Penalty value $29, 000. 00.’

      Those that had provided this data to the media, may have avoided giving the impressions that the ‘…enforcing Litter Wardens’ had been ‘…robotically programmed’ (coined by me) to;

      (a) ‘ …Ensure that as many Tickets are issued; and to be

      (b) …Mercilessly punitive.’

      No one may deny the absolute necessity of the ‘…Legislative Initiative.’

      Thus, none may deny the ‘…Mischief Aimed by Parliament,’ in ensuring an appreciable ‘…clean nation and healthy environment.’

      Primarily, the ‘…Legislative Initiative’ is intended to inculcate in the minds of the citizenry, a ‘…good sense of responsibility, a civic duty and pride in keeping;

      (a) …Their premises and surroundings;

      (c) …Communities;

      (d) …Streets and other public places in a sanitary state.’

      They may not only have shown how ‘…effective the enforcers have been in ‘…Revenue Generation,’ but also change in national attitude, as well as marked improvement in sanitation and better disposal of garbage or waste.

      They may also have spoken to ‘…continuing public education and sensitization of the citizenry,’ geared at encouraging compliance and more importantly, ‘…enhance cooperation between the citizens and enforcers.’

  3. The implementation of the litter wardens is a great initiative….. If we cant keep our beautiful island clean for free then there is nothing wrong if we have to pay to keep it clean….. I am hoping that the litter wardens are also targeting those mechanics who have old parked vehicles on the side of the roads….

    I an tired of seeing all these old car and garbage on the side of the road..
    Leaving all these old cars and other disgusting stuff at the side of the street is a eye sore and a health hazard
