  1. Clearly their relationship has soured, and PM is trying to push them out. He voided their duty free, denied the over water bungalow and gave permission to Royalton Chic, and now this. Hmmm

  2. Be careful Gaston. Don’t bite the hand that feeds us. Sure they may get away with bypassing taxes, but hundreds of families rely on them in Antigua for their paycheck and payment for services.

  3. This should come down to a simple question: what are the laws surrounding the issue, and are they being followed? I bet sandals and its consultants are pushing the law as hard as they can. If so, pass legislation so the same issues aren’t being repeatedly fought in the public domain.

  4. But the Inn at English Harbour has paid no head tax, no Social Security, no Medical Benefits, no Education Levy for many years. And nothing is being done. Why only Sandals? What about all the Air B&Bs, especially at English Harbour who pay not a cent. This sounds very colour’s sided.
Inland Revenue pick and choose who they go after.

  5. Thief do not love to see anyone with long bag. Where is the breeding ground for nepotism and cronyism? Isn’t that what farming is all about under this ALP regime? Can any laborit outside of the purple party show me how he/she has benefited from this givernment. Those in the purple party are doing quite well. Members of Gaston’s family who had to get loan from Board of Education are doing exceptionally well..so when I head Gaston accusing Sandals of wanting all and staff cannot build a home nor purchase a little car I had to ask myself if sandals is the new name fir the ALP government.
Adam Stewart you will learn if you have not yet received the memo. Tge table needs to be taller so some more can drop under it. Well not really drop. You have to pass it. If you are not doing that you will never find favor with this government.
Is Gaston prepared to kill the goose that lays the golden egg? White he is holding a knife to the throat of investors who are already making their contribution to Antigua’s life and economy he is busy signing away Antigua in economic zones. Is he aware that we will not receive a cent from am ecumenical zone? What he will bring is giving away the little available land, packing Antiguans in a corner and creating countries in a country. Does the name Guantanama Bay sound familiar to him or the turn coats fueling his greed?

  6. Question:Is it legal to pay taxes?

Answer:Render unto Caesar (i.e., the ruling Government) the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.

Conclusion:Yes! It is legal to pay taxes

Bottom Line:Taxes provide a substantial financial means to help better the lives of citizens & country as a whole, via improved health care, education, infrastructure, reduction in crime etc.

Mantra: LET’S PAY OUR TAXES, TOGETHER WE CAN RAISE THE STANDARD OF LIVING!

  7. I agree with the PM 100%. It’s about time the Sandals business model is challenged. They collect millions on the back of this country and contributed the bare minimum to our economy.

  8. Gaston is trying to reel in the Jamaicans. Their cheap labour is not cheap anymore. The Mexicans Indians and Asians are a better bargain and they don’t integrate with the Antiguans like the Jamaicans.

  9. It seems like all the inclusive hotel in the Caribbeans does the same thing and the money that they make does not stay in the island that they’re in and they don’t want to pay any taxes they don’t want to pay the workers so how would they building up the country they’re not

  10. I agree with what he is saying. It is why it should be highly important to help others achieve and never say I cannot help you.

  11. As many of you know I don’t often agree with Prime Minister Gaston Browne, but on this issue I agree with him wholeheartedly.

Why should I as an Antiguan entrepreneur and business man ensure I pay up my taxes; why should I as land holder ensure all of my land taxes are paid up on a regular basis without incurring extra fines.

Sandals and the like are not only capturing their exclusive tourism market (especially as these tourists rarely spend money on the local economy), but also not paying their fare share of taxes, yet many of the indigenous do.

TAKE THEM DOWN PRIME MINISTER …

  12. What about Royalton next door. They are not hiring Antiguans in management positions. They are bringing in foreign contractors to maintain their properties. They are allowed to cut off the northern portion of halcyon beach from the public. Pm I don’t mind you pull up Sandals, however you need to strengthen out Royalton as well.
Stop them from dumping sewage in our lagoon. Stop them from destroying our beaches with high concentration salt water from their desalination return lines.

  13. I give him props on this one cuz he is talking bare facts here. Sandals is not the only hotel. Other hotels too and I would not call their names but they take out all these monies and it is not been paid to these said companies,Social Security is one. They pocketing it and it ought to stop. They get rich off of us. While we getting the little stipend and still struggling. Like I said I give Gaston props on this one cuz he is talking truth.

  14. The owners of the Sandals Hotels are Jamaicans. Could that be the reason. He is going after them. Instead of going after those others.Because they contribute heftily to the ABLP financial causes. Just asking.
