Massiah Slams ‘One-Day’ Senate Reappointment as Political “Pappy Show”
Joanne Massiah has criticised the decision to reappoint Alex Browne to the Senate for what she suggested was a brief, symbolic stint, describing the move as unnecessary and politically hollow.
Speaking during a call-in on the Browne and Browne show on Pointe FM, the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) leader questioned the timing of the reappointment, noting that Parliament was expected to be dissolved shortly.
Massiah argued that there was no constitutional obligation to immediately fill the Senate vacancy, particularly given the limited timeframe before an election.
“There’s no constitutional requirement that they have to fill the position… absolutely not,” she said, dismissing the urgency of the decision.
She went further, branding the move a “Pappy show” and suggesting it served little practical purpose beyond optics.
“I don’t know why Alex himself allowed himself to be happy showed and paraded,” Massiah added, implying the appointment reduced the role to political theatre.
Her remarks come against the backdrop of a final Senate sitting that she said was primarily convened to complete legislative business ahead of an anticipated dissolution of Parliament.
Massiah maintained that reappointing a senator under such circumstances raised questions about decision-making within the political system.
“I don’t know who is advising these people… nobody’s thinking,” she said.
The former opposition leader’s comments add to ongoing debate surrounding political strategy and governance decisions as the country approaches a general election.

I see “Pappy show”…I see “Poppy show”…I see Happy show” in the write up. Which one is it really?
She should have been the leader of the UPP by now, had they not been so vindictive and more strategic. They would have been in the winning column. Karma is real. They have never recovered since Feb 14, 2017.
You know so much about politics yet no one in your Party ever got back their deposits. You Labourites are just the same. Why Gaston did not find a place on his slate for you. You people are all frauds. Even if UPP is decimated in the upcoming election, no Party headed by you can ever see the light of day. YOU TOO BADMINDED and POWER HUNGRY
If anyone wants to talk about “pappy show” in politics, look no further than Joanne Massiah. Every single one of her candidates has walked away, leaving her standing alone while still trying to stay relevant. It’s clear she’s become increasingly bitter, because with every move she makes, she struggles to gain any real attention in the political arena.
Now the only label she seems to carry is being called a “comrade” by the very ruling party she claims to oppose. The irony couldn’t be greater — still clinging to leadership of a dissolved DNA party while trying to convince anyone she’s still a serious political force. At this point, it’s more spectacle than substance.
UPP itself is a PAPPYSHOW so what do we expect?
Well said, comrade Joanne.
If you want to be relevant. Why didn’t the APLP call the election and resigned Robin and Maulwin Joseph at the same time. Baltimore did not even get to fart in the seat. So let me give you some work. Joanne we have scores of young Zumbies walking around due to the abuse of marijuana. Why not as a lawyer, a politician and as a parent take up this issue and fight for the survival of our youth.
Instead of criticizing every thing that the UPP does. We also have an education in thd making that will deprive thousands of Antiguans their constitutional rights. At this point both the electorate and the electoral commission are in chaos.
The government needs to fulfill its mandate. There is more than enough work to be done and time left to accomplish.
We are now living in a one party state. There is no such thing as DNA political party. The UPP has diehard supporters but is is on the same road traveling to catch up the DNA. So there is no need to plunder this country into an election. It’s a waste of time and resources.
Gaston get in with the job of running the country and fix the roads, the water, the crime situation etc. you are capable, so just get on with the job. UPP pants is not down, it’s not on at all.
Then by the same logic it’s the same from ALP who did the same for the guy that won the Bi Election for that parish
Ok my good friend Joann massiah see no pappy showism in Gaston or ALP at all? Instructive!
But all mercenaries will be called out for a price to create voter attrition on upp side.
Isn’t joann ashame to go down in history as the fox that could get the grape so she declare it sour? What a psychological comfort to her mind, all the socioeconomic prohibition brought on by Gaston will affect her and Antigua long after the power which is ice in the sun that Gaston temporarily enjoy is gone.
What’s your point of contention Joanne Massiah?
Wasn’t Randy Baltimore sworn into the lower house, to collect his salary to be used as campaign funds?
The emotional garbage and baggage which poliTRICKtans harbor smells, wus dan dead fish innah fish pot, wen U haul um up.
Joanne Massiah where is your #CRIME_FIGHTING PLAN?
Did you speak publicly about the lack of accountability at the PWD and its involvement with the Car dealerships?
Pathetic and asinine just about sums up these poliTRICKtans with their emotional and mental, tirades and charades!
Have you publicly addressed, the laws which now governs the medical cannabis industry and is doing irreparable harm(s) to the mental, physical and spiritual stability?
Do you know how burdensome these AD HOC laws will be on the public healthcare system dealing with kidney, lung, heart, throat, prostrate, abdominal ailments?

Oh be quiet. You talk too much. You have been a hating ass woman from the get go when you were a Upp. Badmind a kill yuh woman. Go have a seat and leave that man alone.
Anytime something is said about the UPP, they will brand the writer as an ABLP. If the lady is correct, why not learn from that mistake if it was a mistake. The executive of the party was unfair to Massiah. How can you push ou a sitting MP who won her seat ? . Now as for the decriminalization of cannabis, who so ever was in favor of implementing that Law was not bias in doing so. Without that Law, many youths would be in prison when caught. If the government change and reverse the decriminalization of cannabis it will make it worse. With Laws in place or not, no government can stop the youths from smoking. Smoking cannabis will never stop and more and more join the band wagon every day. The world is moving towards total legalization of the cannabis. I am in full support to ban all sort of smoking in public places. That Law need to be fine tune. UPP dont take corrections. Every body who leave the party saying the same thing. My advice is, if whatever the general public is saying is true, just correct it.. The UPP must try to win that election by all cost or means.
JOANNE,PLEASE DO YOURSELF AND THE PEOPLE OF ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA A FAVOR.WALK AWAY FROM POLITICS AND DO NOT LOOK BACKWARDS.OR ELSE YOU COULD BE TURNED INTO A PILLAR OF SALT.I DID HEAR A RECORDING OF YOU SOMETIME AGO.REFERRING TO GASTON BROWNE AS A CLOWN AND A PAPPY SHOW.ARE YOU NOW CROSSING OVER TO THE CLOWN AND PAPPY SHOW PARTY,THE GBLP? THAT WOULD BE A DAMN SHAME.
Why drunkards never stay in their lane and always butting in to other people’s business
real pappyshowness. Alex done know he not ever seeing the halls of parliament again after this election
Such remarks are a bit unfounded and bewildered because no one knew the Prime Minister would have called election so soon. In fact , I think that had the Prime Minister himself knew that he was going to call General Elections, he would not have had the by-election in St. PHILIP North. The abrupt announcement surprised many, even including many in the ABLP. Elections are costly. The good Lady’s remarks are a little bit unfortunate and regrettable.
