Browne Criticizes Wehner’s Conduct Following Parliament Walkout

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has criticized UPP Senator Jonathan Wehner over comments made during a radio interview following last week’s parliamentary walkout by opposition legislators.

Speaking on the Browne and Browne radio programme, Browne took aim at Wehner’s conduct during an appearance on Observer Radio after he and other opposition senators left Parliament in solidarity with Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle.

“I heard this dude right at the top of his voice making a whole heap of noise — the same Jonathan, I mean, totally agitated. Arrogant,” Browne said.

The prime minister also mocked the senator’s presentation style, adding: “Even Comrade Washie sounded more manly than him.”

Browne suggested that Wehner was following the wrong political path and attributed his approach to influences he had experienced over the years.

“If you take into consideration his socialization as a youth, and maybe he sees his dad as, he emulates his dad. He’s going down the wrong path,” Browne said.

The comments came during a wider discussion about the opposition’s decision to leave Parliament after Pringle was barred from participating in a joint sitting because he had not taken the oath of allegiance required under the Constitution.

During the programme, another panelist suggested Wehner had been pressured into adopting his current approach, while a third argued that his conduct reflected the style of leadership demonstrated by Pringle.

Wehner was among the opposition senators who joined the walkout after the dispute over Pringle’s participation in the sitting.

The government has maintained that constitutional provisions prevented Pringle from taking part in parliamentary proceedings until he was formally sworn in, while opposition figures have challenged the handling of the matter.

Browne’s remarks represent the latest escalation in the political fallout from the parliamentary dispute, which has continued to generate debate across radio programmes and social media platforms in the days since the walkout.

  1. Oh My God!!!!
I cannot call on God to have mercy on you three.
May lightning do what is has never done in Antigua………
    Three disgraceful men.
    Yes, three.
They have no respect and decency for human life.
It is sad when a woman who claims to have guven birth can sit with two men and denegrade a child so much.
Well, we know the character and hand speed of the men.
I am wondering if the hand speed of the men is matched by the home funerals of the woman.
    IT MUST HAVE BEEN!!!!!!!!!

  2. Young Senator Jonathan Whener has just entered the political arena, and has already got inside the head of the Prime Minister and ruffled he feathers.

Jonathan must be doing something right to be agitating Browne and his fellow weak lilly-livered radio pundits. Gwannn Senator!

Look, anyone with a modicum of common sense knows, that unlike Anthony Smith saga and other well known UPP deserters of the past, Gaston Browne can NEVER persuade this very educated and talented young man to jump ship for any ABLP inducements whatsoever.

And mainly due, not only to Jonathan’s father’s strong loyalty and association with the UPP, but Browne also understands that this newly appointed Senator with his legal background, youth and vitality will outlast any nonsensical claptrap that comes out of the mout’ of this Prime Minister.

Furthermore, in around ten years time, young Jonathan is more than likely to head the UPP and the country, and Gaston Browne would have retired to some fluent Spanish speaking tax haven somewhere.

Keep calling these “deracinated ‘ABLP’ imbeciles” out, Your Most Honourable – and newly appointed -Senator Jonathan Whener 👏🏾

  3. UPP go make Wehner overly-bitter and destroy him like they destroyed their other young Politicians!! UPP go make Wehner overly-bitter and destroy him like they destroyed their other young Politicians!!

If young Wehner is not careful and smartly pick his battles, this bitter & toxic UPP Leadership will diminish his political future before it even gets started properly. I just hope they don’t turn him be as politically irrelevant and a public nuisance like his father.
Wehner potentially is you the future of UPP, don’t let them UPP executives who filled with hatred in them heart to make you talk stupidness in their defense or go against common sense issues.

  4. He’s a WHIPPER SNAPPER that needs to calm down and take time walk fast.

He is letting emotions get the better of him and that’s not good at all.

  5. @straight Shooter: are you kidding me? A child? If he is then he has no business in grown adult matters. He should step away. Once you step into the ring, you deserve the bloody nose you get (it’s a choice you make and the consequences you bear)!!!!

It’s a shame that you’re not a leader that children would want to consider a role model. I have seven children and the last time I want to have a child like you. I would pick that young man any day that someone like you. Shoul should be ASHAMED of himself big old man.
