The Lions Club of Antigua proudly commemorated its 57th anniversary this past weekend with a celebration of community service, partnership, and recognition — reaffirming its enduring commitment to improving health and uplifting lives across Antigua and Barbuda.
On Saturday, October 18, members of the Lions Club of Antigua joined forces with Breast Friends in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, hosting a screening event at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre. Over 110 women benefited from comprehensive screenings, underscoring the Club’s continued dedication to promoting women’s health and early detection. Lions volunteers played an active role in logistics and participant coordination, ensuring the success of the initiative.
Later that day, members gathered for a 57th Anniversary Luncheon at Chimney’s Restaurant, reflecting on the Club’s decades of service and achievements. During the event, Mr. Richard Hadeed, Managing Director of Bio Health Medical Laboratory, was honoured with the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship — the highest form of recognition conferred by Lions Clubs International. The award, named after the organization’s founder, recognizes individuals who embody exceptional humanitarian service and commitment to community betterment.
Mr. Hadeed’s recognition marks a historic milestone, as Bio Health Medical is the first corporate partner in Antigua and Barbuda to receive this honour. His steadfast support of the Annual Prostate Screening Programme has been instrumental in expanding access to affordable testing and early detection for men across the island.
In her remarks, Lion President Ileathea Cabral emphasized the Club’s mission of compassionate service:
“Service is at the heart of who we are. Through partnership and compassion, we strive to create lasting impact and inspire hope in every life we touch.”
Mr. Hadeed expressed his gratitude for the recognition, reaffirming his commitment to continued collaboration with the Club to strengthen men’s health initiatives in Antigua and Barbuda.
