On the morning of June 11, 2024, a light earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 was recorded in the Caribbean Sea near Desirade Island, Guadeloupe.
The quake occurred at 9:35 am local time (GMT -4) at a shallow depth of 10.2 km (6 miles).

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) was the first to report the earthquake approximately 32 minutes after it occurred.
The quake’s epicenter was pinpointed at a latitude of 16.8132°N and a longitude of 61.2947°W. The nearest larger town to the epicenter is Anse-Bertrand in Guadeloupe, which is about 44 km (27 miles) away, where people might have experienced very weak shaking.
The shallow depth of the quake means that it could have potentially been felt by people nearby, but the lack of reports suggests that its impact was minimal.
This earthquake, while relatively minor, serves as a reminder of the seismic activity in the region.
The nearest volcano, Soufrière de Guadeloupe, is located 94 km (58 miles) from the epicenter, highlighting the volcanic and seismic dynamics of the area.
