Liberta Family Receives New Home Under HAPI Initiative Ahead of Christmas
A Liberta family displaced by a house fire two years ago is celebrating Christmas in a new home after receiving the latest handover under the Home Advancement Programme for the Indigent (HAPI).
The four-bedroom house was officially handed over on Tuesday, marking a major milestone for the initiative and restoring stability to the family, whose previous home was destroyed by fire on Father’s Day in 2023, leaving them homeless .
The handover represents the first four-bedroom home constructed under the HAPI programme. According to organisers, the larger design reflected both the size of the family and strong community involvement in the project’s completion .
Member of Parliament for St Paul, E. P. Chet Greene, said the project demonstrated how government support and community contributions could work together to meet urgent social needs. Community pledges made during a radio telethon helped accelerate construction and expand the scope of the home .
HAPI organisers described the handover as a significant achievement for the programme, noting that it highlighted the role of collective action in addressing housing challenges among vulnerable families.
With relatives returning home for the holidays, the family now has a permanent place to reunite and rebuild their lives, just in time for Christmas .
