Prime Minister Gaston Browne says the future of LIAT is uncertain.
He told Pointe FM moments ago that the airline “is likely to be liquidated.”
Browne said LIAT shareholders will meet to decide on the fate of the airline.
“A decision will have to be made to potentially collapse it” and a new entity formed.
“This new entity will require fully cooperation of all, full commitment” he said.
Browne said he is hoping this can be done without any squabble over the headquarters.
The prime minister also said the new airline will have to come on stream as soon as possible.
He called on creditors and the staff of LIAT to cooperate.
“You going to have significant job losses,” Browne warned.
More to come.

Thank you PM Browne for saying the truth! Let LIAT go bankrupt please, because the airline needs to start fresh. There are too many old timers there sucking the money out and being lazy.
Start a new airline, with a new name, and more lean cost structure. Actually, maybe even create a CBI option to help support the creation of a new airline? Like CBI applicants can be investors in the airline? Just an idea…
Please change the name! This LIAT name really sucks.
Werent we supposed to buy it??? This economic powerhouse is tumbling faster than if it was built on quicksand.
It is tumbling over like tumble weed.Which ever way the winds bloweth it goes. That is your economic powerhouse.
An even better idea, liquidate it and don’t start another money pit airline. Do a deal with Air Caraïbes to take over the routes and service their ATRs here.
That would give us more exposure to the European market as well as more destinations within the Caribbean to fly to.
