VC Bird International Airport, January 22, 2024 – LIAT 1974 Ltd, the iconic Caribbean airline, bids farewell to its illustrious five-decade history as it embarks on its final commercial flight today.

The chapter closes as LIAT 1974 Ltd prepares to cease all operations officially on January 24, 2024, under the guidance of the court-appointed administrator, Cleveland Seaforth.

Passengers at VC Bird International Airport were both nostalgic and forward-looking as they boarded the final flight of LIAT 1974 Ltd’s final day.

The historic journey covered the route from Antigua to St Maarten, to Tortola, and back to Antigua, symbolizing the end of an era for regional aviation.

The termination of operations not only marks the end of the longest-serving regional airline but also results in the unfortunate unemployment of approximately 160 employees.

Contracts for 80 workers are set to be terminated by February 5, 2024, while fewer than 100 retained employees will face redundancy.

  1. Unmatched legacy and with all of its problems, it served the region well. Was the only true integration success.

      • @ Gus it’s gospel they collected over 11 million us dollars during the lockdown. I did everything I was told 2do and never heard back once from Liat I would never be booking flights with that brand again.

  2. I feel very sad to experience this especially when I think of the reasons behind the world regions necessity downfall. Shame on all you selfish politicians in the Caribbean region

  3. It is a sad day, but hopefully liat 2000 will succeed with the best management. Typical behaviour of black leaders. They are full of bad mind, selfishness and egos. They can never come together to work for the betterment of the people. I doubt any other airline can replace liat connecting the Caribbean. No airline owned by an outsider will fly on routes that don’t make money. It is a business after all.
Will there be two or more daily flights to Dominica and the other Caribbean islands as we had with liat with the other airlines? I can understand why The Dominion PM is now willing to invest in Liat.
