LETTER: Why was the Ministry of Education set up to fail?

Ministry of Education

In 2025 when the teachers took industrial action, the Prime Minister and his cabinet made the decision to remove the Permanent Secretary as it would appear that the embarrassment in the educationsystem was her fault.  A new one was put in place and that brings us to present day.

Question? Who is evaluating her to ensure that the Ministry of Education, one of the major Ministries in the government is functioning properly? In my humble opinion the Ministry of Education is not functioning any better that it was last year!

Added to disgruntled teachers are disgruntled education officers who have taken industrial action, non functioning departments, people getting paid while they are at home because they have no space to work, limited or no supplies to departments, mold in the building, lack of communication with staff, a toxic work environment and the icing on the cake staff who could not work for a full day because the building has mold are now being paid overtime to change file jackets.

So I ask the question again; who is evaluating the present Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education to ensure that there is not a repeat of what happened last year?

This lady is all talk, plenty gossip, no action! She avoids dealing with issues, like last year she conveniently went on vacation when the issue of mold being in the building came up. She’s back out to work and not a word from her.

She should not have been given the Ministry of Education in the first place. I dare say this is a set up for failure! I dare say that this is why things will never get better because of actions like these.

I am asking the Prime Minister to please cast his eyes on the Ministry of Education because there might just be a repeat of what happened last year in the education arena.  Just get it right!
