Dear Editor

Earlier today, with some friends & relatives who reside overseas, I decided to visit the ARG now transformed into Carnival City, to have lunch and enjoy the scenery of the park and the afternoon breeze.

The Sir Richie Richardson stand was the ideal spot that accommodated us. Luckily, we had the privilege to see various artistes preparing for their evening show. It was surely an afternoon filled with relaxation, reminiscences and entertainment.

Although, on one hand, we enjoyed the afternoon, on the other hand, we were a bit disappointed because it was extremely difficult to understand as to why an owner chose to setup his or her tent infront of the stage to block the view of the audience who would be occupying the Sir Richard Richardson stand to enjoy the shows

The wellness of the stand was also left to be desired. There was litter of left overs or debris throughout, a high stench of urine coming from the rear of the stand and there was no running water.

At this time, one would expect all aspects of the ground be kept to its best.  If tourism continues be our main industry and Carnival City is the hub or central location of all our festive activities, then the authorities in question should be performing at its optimum.

  1. According to the photo shoot above, no one can really see the stage …. Very inconsiderate indeed.

  2. No one is running anything in Antigua. The Ministers and Ps’s are not functioning. Here are 2 examples. APUA has a Minister, PS, Board, GM and Manager of different divisions. So who has to give the order that St. John’s must have running water 24/7 this entire week Town is full, restaurants are full and activities are going on at ARG and no water. Heads must roll but that is wishful thinking as it is obvious that no one in government has the capacity to think. And as the writer noted, there is no clean-up crew at ARG after each show. So you go to sit in filth. Woe unto Antigua.
Then APUA and Public Works. No coordination. No plan. APUA digs up the road and just leaves it. No warning signs. Public Works digs out huge squares which are left for weeks again with no warning signs. No one can convince me that Public Works has a plan or a work programme. Fix here, fix there. No thought process. Fort Road is closed for road works. So an alternative is the back road in Villa. BUT that road is also closed How can you repair the main road and the alternative at the same time? Again no plan. No thought process.

  3. Here come our carnival critics fresh outta the big cities where life has become increasingly nightmarish. You’re home now. Kick off your shoes, let down or leave home your hair, roll with the punches. BTW, did you bother to chat with anybody at the grounds to voice your concerns, offer sage advice or did you simply wrinkle your cute nose and spill your angst into your phone so that your leave behibd your carnival fodder for public consumption. Thanks for your Carnival input and contribution !
