LETTER: Why is the Social Security Board holding us as hostage?

8

Dear Director

Can you tell us as to why is the Social Security Board holding us at ransom ?

Aproximately two years ago, lands at Paynters were bought from the Social Security Board and promises were made by you, as the Director, that the infrastructure for the area would be put in place in short time, so that we, the patrons, who purchased the lands would benefit from our investments.

It is extremely unfortunate, that your promises were made, but they were made just to comfort us like fools. We are now left to wonder as to why have we been treated in such distasteful & dispictable manner.

Obviously, we have been lied to and it seems as though deceiving us seems to be the order of your day. Now, what value are the lands to us, if we cannot use them to build our homes to reside & enjoy?

Are we going to be treated like some of your pensioners who have applied for their pensions and have been left in the cold for a long time, twiddling their fingers and waiting patiently to get what is duly theirs? Infact, some pensioners have applied for over year now and to this day have not received a dime.

Now Mr. Director, where Is that compassion? Some of us have made a sacrifice to purchase these lands, so we can be just like you to own a piece of the rock and enjoy the fruits of our labour.

Alex

  1. Dear Alex,
Don’t expect to get an answer from the Head Nigger in charge. And forget about the Board. They are non-existing. The final decision with everything lies with the Director, or as he boldly refers to himself the Head Nigger in Charge. That is why I asked the Prime Minister to go to parliament and amend the Social Security Act. It gives to much power to one man. And that is a remedy for disaster that is already in the making. Short Shirt have a song. Power Corrupts, and Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely. Chairman after Chairman has challenced his authoriry but to no avail. The Board is Powerless against the Director. So I suggest you write your letter directly to the PM. Perhaps he will do something about it. Just perhaps.

  2. Somebody at Social Security a mek joke…

It look as though the Board & Management are operating a circus instead of a gov’t social program.

A best dem refund negga back dem monies.

  3. Less We Forget have you ever considered the Director might be taking direction from the PM who is in charge of Finance

  4. If that is the case, which I know it is not, than the Director would be a very stupid person. But believe me, he is not. In fact check his BIO. https://www.thealumniassociation.com/home/4837483-david-matthias/profile

This is no “YES MAN” for anyone.
He rules supreme. And he protected by the law from political victimization. Was put there during the UPP time in offiice. Soc cerftainly not a Bird Man.

  5. The same bait-and-switch tactic was used for people buying land in Coolidge near the US Navy base, where, without the infrastructure, the land is unreachable. The muddy roads bog down even heavy equipment during rain, amounting to constructive denial of property rights.

For the entirety of negotiations, Social Security promised, ‘As soon as the money is paid, we will install infrastructure’. There was no mention of any other entity being responsible for delivery on the promise. All of a sudden after the money was paid, ‘It’s out of our hands. Public Works is responsible’.

That response is a far cry from: We are providing or have provided physical services agencies what they need and are actively pushing for the infrastructure to be placed. That attitude could be accompanied with regular updates on exactly what proactivity is achieving. The new landowners, both at Paynthers and Coolidge, would feel better knowing that Social Security was interested in fullfilling its obligations. Instead, it feels like Social Security is viewing purchasers as suckers, for actually believing that the statutory corporation would have done what it committed to doing.

Mr. Director and Board, please seriously ask yourselves: How does this performance, or lack of it, affect confidence from prospective buyers of land offered by Social Security?

  6. Still waiting on my survivor’s benefits, yall are a bunch wicked and heartless bunch. My mom and dad worked hard without a sick day and contributed to your “scheme” and didn’t benefit from it. Now Gaston raise the contributions and we the offsprings can’t see no money…I wish the citizens would storm all government buildings and demand better but they know Antiguans are soft and only full of talk

  7. I do hope that some of the $75,000, 000 that was injected into Social Security coffers will go towards the development of the lands at Paynter’s that person invested in
