Dear Editor,
I want to know why the Prime Minister goes on to his Radio Station every Saturday and curse people left, right, and centre and never addresses the issues facing poor people and the people generally of this country.
The people of Antigua and Barbuda can’t get water to use reliably on a daily basis even though we were promised by the PM and Sir Robin that water rationing would become a thing of the past if they got into power.
“There is even a clip with Sir Robin saying if mommy, daddy and granny can’t get water they should be skated out of office” and 8 years onwards the problem has become even worse than it was, and yet still the people of this country can’t open their eyes and see these elected officials for who they really are.
Some people in this country in the 21st century don’t even have access to government water which is truly shocking, and water is a human right to have access too. This country is surrounded by “water” and yet still little has been done to fix this issue. People need water, it’s a human right and we the people should not put up with this nonsense.
Since this pandemic has hit this country, the poor has become poorer, and the rich has become richer. People has lost jobs which will never come back, and nothing is being done to create jobs locally for persons displaced by this pandemic. No programs have been implemented by this administration to alleviate the suffering of poor people in this country.
It seems to be that hotel workers are the only people this administration cares about. Are there any plans to create jobs in the government and private sector for the unemployed?
The roads and infrastructure here in Antigua have for years been truly horrendous.
Except for Friars Hill and Airport Road, you cannot go anywhere without dropping into a pothole, drive over bad patching, holes in sidewalk, no guttering, stink smell especially in the city etc etc. At night some places so dark, I guarantee it only takes an unfortunate incident to happen for them to put streetlights in dark places sadly. If you drive around this beautiful island the bushes are overgrown, and they are growing into the road making the road narrow and the island looking unsightly to say we are a tourist country. This is absolutely shocking, disturbing and something has to be done Mr PM.
Every day on all Radio programs from morning till night you here pensioners crying out for their monies owed to them but this administration does not seem to care about them unless its election time. When isn’t the board of Social Security and the administration not doing anything to address these issues pensioners face on a monthly basis.
The head of SS and the board should resign especially when they put out a callous statement about hope and pray. People have bills to pay and mouths to feed. What does hope and pray do? Sick of the nonsense.
Electricity and internet stability in this country is truly shocking. Every day current comes off in the East with no explanation whatsoever from APUA. The internet frequently buffers and the PM and his ministers are telling students to do online classes and some parents work from home and cannot have stable electricity and internet supply to efficiently and effectively carry out tasks online.
This is unacceptable Mr PM, especially when you just got elected you promised these would be things of the past.
The cost of living in this country is skyrocketing on a daily basis, yet still wages and salaries remain the same, no benefits like national health insurance which was promised by Sir Molwyn cannot be produced to this day.
The ABST rate remains the same, gas prices remained the same even when the price of oil and gas was it lowest, fuel variation on your electricity bill remains the same etc.
One would think with rising cost of living, salaries would go up, but no, some big businesses (including government) raise their prices, pocket profits and still refuses to increase the wages and salaries of their staff. Why doesn’t the PM try to rectify these issues?
The PM calls Mr Eli Fuller an “alarmist”. The last time I checked the PM is the one to signed this country on to the Paris Climate Accord and other climate change projects not Mr Fuller. So how can you now be saying the government is looking to do offshore sand mining when you sign to protect the countries environment air and marine environments. What is special about our sand, when it is known that Guyana and Monserrat have way better sand than us here.
Who told you this can be done sustainably, the Chinese? If you Mr PM is serious about climate change, let you actions and words speak for themselves.
When the 2008 global recession hit the world, the PM was chastising the then administration for not providing a stimulus.
Fast forward to 2020-2021 even though this pandemic hit the economy harder than 2008 global economy economic recession, I think people would agree if the economy was managed properly, money could have been there to get things done around here.
Instead of cursing people and cursing Asot Michael Mr PM, why not address the issues faced by the people especially poor people of this country. Don’t you care or have a heart sir?
Btw please tell the people how we going to have 10% economic growth next year?

Yep he’s responsible for UWI five islands, ACB buying Royal Bank of Canada, he’s responsible for the linkage between Harvard University and UWI Five Islands, he has given more than 2 times the amount of Scholarships for University than any other Administration, he’s responsible for Antigua and Barbuda owning majority shares in West Indies Oil, he’s responsible for the New Deep Water Harbour Cargo Port and the New cruise ship docking (6th peer), and Sandals paying in all our ABST.

Ok, he has done all this as you say. How many jobs have been created for Antiguans? Investments should create well paying jobs. Antiguans are graduating from universities and have to go abroad to look for opportunities. The biggest employer is the government with their minimum wages. Gaston talks about investments, but only because he thinks they can make the government money. What does the government do with the money they make, if any. The national debt is still increasing, the infrastructure is mostly non existent and the young people are still unemployed.
So tell Me how all these investments benefited the ordinary Antiguan. You see we have a prime minister who thinks he is a banker.

The PM is suppose to have an honourable front because frankly, HE IS A REPRESENTATION OF US ALL And sadly from the moment he stepped into power he has done nothing but cause chaos, steal, lie, and steal all of our frigging land to the Chinese. Is this a real country?? They a more focus on a man more than their life being, I lived in Antigua 4 years and all it did was send me back 25years. This place is a mess the PM don’t care off the people nor does her care of their being, and most of the people are blended by his food packages and Turkey and ham. The water problem is ridiculous yet you get a big bill end of month. I really don’t understand the people of Antiguan don’t they think they a worth more?? Seriously mind blowing.
Antiguans are not blinded by food packages. There is a covid pandemic and a lot of people are in need, thus the requirement for the food packages. Most of the people who rush for the turkey and ham at Christmas are non nationals and poor Labour Party supporters. Yes Antiguans deserve more.
All I can say to folks like woe is me and concern is, there comes a time when truth out weights loyalty.
Take the time to read and understands (no do one and leave the other, they work better hand in hand) Desomnd’s article and beside the issue of the PM cussing out people (which is correct) what other concerns in the article is so wrong / over-stated? You are so focus on the “cussing out” that you sidestep the other concerns that was address.
Can you shed some light on those issues please?
The leader of any nation is ELECTED to SERVE by the PEOPLE of that nation, point blank. As a leader you will not have the support of the ALL the citizens, but because you are a TRUE leader, looking out for the betterment of said NATION, your goal is to serve ALL, EVERYONE…. Not just who you like because their are kissing your a$$ or voted for you.
The very sad part is, he knows most of you can be brought at election time! I wonder if a poll was done, how many educated people voted for Gaston. We keep lowering the bars for the likes of Gaston and others, making the nation less respectable. Why?
We are a very forgetful nation, may God have mercy on our souls.
I agree 100% with the letter. The PM should hold himself to a higher standard. Do more for the poor people of Antigua and less for rich. Be a man of integrity and honor, it’s so lacking in Antigua.

The letter is spot on. What exactly was Gaston Browne elected to do? Govern!!! Not curse people on a weekly basis. If he feels like he is above criticism, he shouldn’t be in office. Criticism comes with the territory. He had a big mouth in Opposition and he certainly should expect to be criticized as the PM.
The people of Antigua and Barbuda should pay attention. During Gaston Browne’s first term he would brag endlessly about his plans, accomplishments and the building of a powerhouse. Now that the country is in shambles, he has switched up his narrative to attack people. It’s just just a deflection because there is nothing to brag about. From powerhouse to poor house and his attitude reflects his altitude. Enough of the mud slinging. Some of us have no interest in people’s personal lives. We just want the basic, reliable modern conveniences. Do better Gaston. Do the job that you were elected to do.
Pointe FM was established so the PM would have a platform for maligning any one who opposes him and also a venue to spin lies and half truths. On his program on Saturday, he lied about who took the woman’s property at half moon bay. He knows fully well that it was Lester Bird who took the property to give to Stanford. When the UPP came to power they tried to give it back but the former owner didn’t want it.
Pointe FM is there to allow the PM to distort the truth, spin lies, cuss out people and where his pathetic followers can phone in to show their love and admiration. It has to be mostly his supporters who listen to him as they are the only ones phoning in.
If LB took the property as you claim, why is it the interest rate clock starting running only during the UPP admin ( July 2007)?HMB went to court in 2002 to prevent government from taking the property. The court proceedings prevented the LB admin from taking the property. If you know your history you will know many promises were made by the UPP not to take the HMB property (to reverse the former admin decision). The UPP took something like a year in a back and forth with Quarard before they concluded they were getting nowhere and it was time to acquire. They moved ahead to do so in July 2007, after the Privy counsel ruling. Took them about 2 years befoire they could get the property valued. Much prayers that Astaphan will win in his fight to prevent us from having to pay the unfair interest amounts HMB is demanding

The radio station is there for his ministers to affirm their loyalty to him publicly. Notice when they appear on his program they shower him with praise? I shudder when I look as these grown men that we elected who can only do and say what he approves. What choice do they have? I tell you they can continue to enrich themselves or think independently and be exposed and kicked out of the party. Only the big dog can talk.
