Dear Editor,
It’s been a week since I’ve had consistent water. Prior to this marathon of no water, it has been off at least one day a week for about a month. This seems regressive to me.
At first, we heard we did not have water because of a drought, our surface water had dried, and of course, this was believable because we could clearly tell no rain had fallen for some time.
However, we boast of 365 beaches, so what about using the reverse osmosis plants? We heard the RO plants could not produce the capacity we needed. So, investments were allegedly made to increase the RO plant network.
Oh, then another problem, the pipes are poorly maintained, so we had higher-than-average leakage. The pipes were then to be repaired.
Okay, fine, but still… problems.
We have officially been out of a drought for some time, according to our local experts, despite their opinion being termed “mistaken” by a government official. Most of us, however, can tell the drought has long been past, but with surface water somewhat replenished and more RO plants on stream, problems still abound.
Now, the water at the plant at Crabbs is low… why? Is it underproducing? We went through this earlier this year as well.
What exactly is the problem now? A change in general manager at APUA still has not arrested this problem.
Please, what is the REAL reason why we do not have consistent water? Because with all these changes and investment, the results have still been underwhelming.
Can an official tell us what the TRUE problem is? Can Antiguans simply not provide this basic need for our own people?
Frustrated Antiguan

Piss poor planning under the UPP has taken longer than we would have liked to be fixed. For example:
When the Gaston Browne administration took office in 2014, Sembcorp was producing 3.5 million gallons per day and was owed more than $22 million dollars by the UPP administration.
Within 14 days of the ABLP’s assumption to governance, Sembcorp increased its production levels, and payments were made to reduce the debt inherited from the previous Administration.
Today, the Sembcorp plant is owned by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda; the debt has been repaid, and the quantum of water produced is twice as much as when the Gaston Browne Administration took office.
Many other problems inherited from the UPP government had to be addressed but there has been steady progress especially in the last few years.
With the 3 million more gallons per day from Seven Seas and the replacement of the leaking pipes with Chinese assistance, water problems will be solved sooner than you may think.
Did you miss all the new developments on yesterdays ABS news?

Water was the leading story and the Water Minister gave many updates. They are even addressing the rough seas production problems and the storage and distribution issues.
It is upsetting
Not to mention bringing the water at 2 am in the morning to be gone at 7 am!!!!
We need to do better than this….
This will continue to next general election, same problem incompetent people in office. Get rid of the crooks including Gaston Brown.
I have the same problem at allsaints west week and a half no water and no standing pipe in the area whats the problem need to know ,when you get the water in the morning by the time you get home it gone
Less We Forget the water metres are been turned by hot air instead of water. Antigua is in need of some serious protests against this type of treatment from the authorities.
This ALP government is the worst in the WI. Call de election now; we can’t wait.
Byam you is an idiot, calling an election now with the opposition in disarray, can the snakes and your votes make a different. All of us are affected with this water dilema, but to call an election now those on the side will get a beating never seen before.
Fustrated , it all boil down to incompetence and lack of respect for the citizens. No right thinking management would be distributing water at 2 Am and gone by 7 Am. That is poor strategy.
Road r@ss ah fuh me issue.
@Promise Made…#PROPAGANDA is the most ppwerful psychological weapon used, to INDOCTRINATE and mold one’s #thought_process.
I can appreciate fact; that, you’re doing your endeavour best, to prop up the ignorance of the #Bumbling_Bureaucrats and #Nattering_Crooks, as you perform your tasks at ANR – Antigua NewsRoom, this vital ONLINE BLOG for the ABLP PROPOGANDA ❌👹BIG RED MACHINE.
Nevertheless, your gibberish does nothing to address the current water crisis on the island after millions and who the hell knows probably billions with the lack of oversight and accountability by those charged with management, of the People’s affairs.
By the way, my granddaughter says, When she turns on the faucet, aa she’s getting ready for school in the mornings, the faucet is blowing hot air and sound like, a noise coming from behind me, after I eat a #Ball_Of_Fungee, dat a siddung, innah Cedar Grove #Dr_Fish_Bratah and de fish a wink ee eye!

Constructing Reverse Osmosis Plants is very big business and there is the new avenue to expand their thiefing. We still can’t get an accurate figure of how much was spent to acquire these Plants. The interest is really thiefing and not the supply of water.
Roads, electricity and water. It all comes down to the infrastructure. While I have encountered similar issues on neighboring islands, I understand the frustration that some communities are experiencing with water distribution. This should have been resolved years ago.
I have said this before but if the government or opposition ever put forth detailed plans on how to improve all aspects of Antigua’s infrastructure (hopefully with Chinese expertise/assistance/training, since, let’s be honest, Chinese engineers know what they are doing unlike Public Works), then that would guarantee my vote and probably a donation or two.
@Ras Smood, always a pleasure hearing Antiguans who are capable of logical thought. ALP MUST be paying big time to produce the asanine, nonsensical rantings of their acolytes. Water was never this horrendous under UPP,@ Promise Made. You can rant and spill all your crap, there are patriots who know gibberish when they hear it.
Since you know so much. Tell us how many RO and how many millions this inept, corrupt, thiefing government has spent. The one up Willoughby Bay lies in ruins; what idiot would put an RO plant where sea weed abounds. As intimated by Ras Smood, Piss Poor Planning, greed aka finders fee, and corruption.
Are you getting water @Promise Made? I doubt it. Yet you’re on here chatting all kinds of gibberish.
Hope they’re paying you well.
We are creating the situation so you accept our solution, as prime minister I will have a private company manage our own R .O water plant and sell us water from our own water plant, the money will be divi up in my enrichment scheme, so zap! That’s the solution, it may be burdensome with high water and electricity bills on the people, because these R O plant consume the same amount of electricity as say liberta village put together.
