The UPP’s Flawed Strategy: Why Boycotting Debates Won’t Work*
The United Progressive Party’s (UPP) decision to boycott debates until after government ministers have spoken is a flawed strategy that will ultimately backfire.
Mathematically, the UPP will never have the numbers to mark every government minister, making this approach unreasonable.
With over ten government ministers presenting budgets, it’s impossible for the UPP to effectively evaluate each one.
This strategy is not only unrealistic but also undermines the democratic process.
By boycotting debates, the UPP is relinquishing its responsibility to hold the government accountable and provide alternative perspectives on key policy issues.
Moreover, the UPP has already boycotted two debates, and this concept is proving to be impractical.
Those encouraging the UPP to continue this approach are advising them wrongly, at their own peril, and to the detriment of the people.
It’s time for the UPP to rethink its strategy and focus on engaging in constructive debates that advance the interests of the Antiguan people.
By doing so, they can demonstrate their commitment to good governance and their ability to provide effective opposition.
Someone with sense needs to talk to these MPs and the party.

At this point talking about UPP is almost like beating a dead horse that has been 7 years rotting in the grave of UPP incompetence, badmind, elitism, Gisele Isaac dictatorship, and Pringle puppetry.

For Petes sake, why is Gaston always finding an excuse to shut down the debate? This is the question you red people should be asking. When he is not giving the opposition a weekend to review the budget, he is refusing to have his ministers speak and then shut down the budget debate. Gaston is always playing games and red people play right along. What do we expect? Antigua is not a real country, but a figment of red people’s imagination.
You people on this page don’t want any opposition. You want a one party country.
Antigua deserves better both the opposition and government. I learnt recently of some big rip off projects.
1) The Cassada Garden Horse race track. Who got the contract to do the earthwork. How is paying ( tax payers). How much is the contractor getting from the government to sub-contract equipment. 15 million broad dollar note I heard????
2) The supply of equipment to government- why equipment that cost less than 4 million, is being sold to the government for 50 million. I
heard 50 million but I did not believe my ear. I was not in the position to ask any question. Just not in the position to ask any questions. Trust me I was not supposed to hear these information. The top drawers were discussing and I overheard.
I walked off angry and said we need real serious changes. We have a bunch of politicians that are ripping off this country, left , right and center and s lame excuse for an opposition.

The Budget Speech was hours long, there was much that could have been spoken on, they just weren’t ready… as usual.
