LETTER: Social Security, can I have my money back from land that I bought at Paynters?

8

Dear Mr. Matthias

Some time ago, Social Security sold me a plot of land located at Paynters, however, I am not in a position to use it due to your company’s tardiness. Therefore, would I be able to get back my money?

I am tired, frustrated and fethup from this long wait concerning the promises made to put in place the infrastructure for the lands located at Paynters,  that many of us bought.

As a young person, I thought it was very prudent of me to purchase a piece of the rock. As a result, i got a loan from one of the commercial banks to purchase the land.

I bought the land for over $50, 000.00 with the intention to build a home so that my small family & I, can enjoy.

Sadly, for some unknown reason as to what is causing the delay of putting the infrastructure in place is baffling me… Unfortunately, because of the tardiness of your company’s operation, I am unable to enjoy the fruits of my labour.

Presently, the lands at Paynters are looking like a forest. There are no roads, no water and no electricity and shrubs of vegetation are consuming the entire area.

I’ve been in rent for several years now and I thought it would be best for me to invest in my own property. At the moment, I feel like i have been taken to be a fool. Promises were made to have the area properly prepared but yet your promises are not being kept …

Now would it be possible to have my money back, so that, I can go and invest elsewhere?  I am ready to collect it now.

Alex

  1. Rather then to write a letter and put your business out in public, you should hire a Lawyer and sue the fund and in particular the Director as the decision maker.

  2. In my experiences in Antigua and for many people that I have spoken to Writing to a lawyer can be the longest road to take. We all know how terrible that can go Voicing your grievances can often move the needle a little bit. Just Saturday a woman told me that she paid a$1,000 for a lawyer to work on her grievance and now she has two grievances. The original one and now one with the lawyer..

  3. I am in agreement with the author of this letter.

It is long overdue! How much longer is Social Security going to have these customers waiting.

Do they think that people pick off a tree ?

  4. Wait….hold on a second.

Why are you waiting on Social Security to put the infrastructure in place? Is this not APUA?

And why are you waiting on them to clear the land? Was it included in the purchase contract?

But help me out….what are customers waiting on? Where is the rest of the story?

  5. Would suggest you hold onto the land because there is no way you can buy land with infrastructure for less than 10.00 per sq foot. Suspect you paid about 6.00 per sq feet?. These days the lowest I have seen private developed land going for is 12.00 per sq foot. If you have promises in writing from SS to put in said infrastructure have a lawyer write them and if possible sue them. However, I have no doubt the price you paid was much less than its valued and I suspect SS would willingly give you back what you paid

  6. Dear Alex,

We do understand your frustration at the lack of infrastructure and what seems to be an inordinate delay, but please understand that this delay is beyond the control of Social Security. Infrastructure development is not within the remit of the ABSSB, but rather facilitated through development partners.

We would have indicated prior that resource constraints have impacted the ability of those partners to respond within the timeframe landowners, such as yourself, would like. The ABSSB continues to engage said partners, all of whom have reaffirmed their commitment to completing this project in the shortest practical time.

  7. @ Director of Social Security: Thank you for your timely response. Although your response has not solve my concern, you must be commended for taking time out of your busy schedule to shed some light on the situation. Perhaps if it was someone else in your position, maybe arrogance would have taken the best of them and choose to ignore my concern. Thank you very much Mr. Director and I do hope that your partners will do something towards our plight in the not too distant future.
