LETTER: Police, don’t be lazy!

Dear Editor,

I just read an article about a man in All Saints who was brutally attacked and robbed in the village very close to the gas station. His injuries require hospitalisation.

His father said that the police told him they need the license plate number of the car the attackers were riding in. Now the victim was attacked near the gas station and the grocery store, which have cameras, and his father mentioned this.

The police cannot reasonably expect anyone near the scene of the crime to know the license plate number. However, the police have a DUTY to look for surveillance cameras in the area and pore over the footage.

In fact, every time a crime happens, police need to see if there are cameras in the area, and go through the footage. How do they expect to solve crime without doing this? This country has had serial rapists, unsolved murders, you name it.

Atlee Rodney, what are you doing? Those just below him in rank, what are you doing? This young man could have died.

We know that many of these crimes are perpetrated by repeat offenders who evade capture. The long time it takes to pore over footage, may actually lead to less work in the long run. Once more criminals are captured, then fewer crimes will be committed and there will be fewer police reports.

A really worried citizen.

  1. I hope when the police don’t be lazy to give tickets, arrest your loved ones for crimes and sentence them to prison time y’all are singing the same tune. I pray with the same base in your voice you praise the officers who uphold the law and do their due diligence.
