LETTER: Please don’t fix all the roads at the same time

14
Valley Road north

Right now, several roads are currently being fixed. This has caused traffic to spill over onto other roads. The prime minister recently said that he wants everything done at once, and not incrementally.

The population of Antigua has grown over the last 20 years, and I believe since then a greater proportion of adults are vehicle-owners. Our roads are congested for much of the day.

Fix the roads incrementally – driving on congested roads is stressful.

  1. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t in this place. Now we are complaining that we shouldn’t fix all of the roads too quickly…

  2. Put the road fixers on shift and let them work at night when there is much less traffic. This is the way it is done in North America.
But this will never happen here as these people only know one, outdated way.

  3. Well the person did not say anything wrong just fix one area at a time and working at nights as someone has mentioned would also help..

  4. Is this a joke? People have been complaining about road repairs for a long time. Now that it’s being done, they want it done in phases. When it was being done in phases, many complained that their area was being neglected. A fickle minded group of people. If you listen to them, nothing will get done. Be prepared to leave a bit earlier in the mornings and return home a little later.
    Do your thing, Hon. MVB.

  5. HAHA… I told you about you Garots….ALWAYS Complaining. Now the newest one…” dont fix the roads at the same time..” Well Lard!

  6. @Truth Seeker,
Don’t be foolish. This is not the US. Federal dollars go into road repairs. A task force was created using federal currency to repair highways, bridges and roadways. Workmen at night get double pay. Do you think that we have that access to procurement of that magnitude? Get real. Just watch the process and stay quiet. We’re happy for the road repair program until the irresponsible drivers make it their race track, unfortunately. More deaths to follow.

  7. We need to plan our road repairs properly. It’s a lot of work that needs to be done. We need a more organized Director of Works. Not just someone that is reactive to the PM threats. Also we are tired of CO Willimas for several months keep on blocking off our highways. Full time they compete these roads.

  8. Madame Dave Ray, the person is not against the fixing of the roads, he is just suggesting not too many at the same time, when one road is been fixed you should see the confusion here, I have been stuck in traffic for as much as 45 minutes to get from town to Bolans which is a 10 minute or less drive. You criticize everything woman

  9. Do you realize that most roads only get fixed close to a general election? We better take when we can get it. Granted, I don’t need to use the roads they’re fixing now but let’s be real please.

  10. @Born & Bred Antiguan,
Your name calling doesn’t affect me in one way or another. I’m currently in Antigua and I’m happy to see the ongoing road repairs. The problem with you guys is that you have an answer for everything, but only with your negative lips. This country could have been further along if the citizens were more supportive of progress. Every issue has become a political issue with everyone’s being an expert. Just listen to the talk shows everyday.
