LETTER: Let’s hope UPP learn from their mistake and stop taking their members for granted.

Dear Editor

Our constitution allow us to freely exercise our franchise at the polls in order to select an administration to manage the affairs of the country. However, at the end of the day we are all Antiguans and so, we should focus on uniting with each other to build a better nation.

The author of our national anthem wrote…

“We (Antiguans & Barbudans)commit ourselves to building
A true nation brave and free.
Ever striving ever seeking
(Antiguans & Barbudans)Dwell in love and unity.

Now recently the nation witnessed a dramatic event which never happened before in Antigua’s history. The Hon Anthony Smith, a former UPP parliamentarian transitioned into an independent MP and was subsequently given a gov’t  ministerial portfolio.

Several months before, the nation also witnessed Dwayne George a former member of UPP been given a position as a govt senator & junior minister in the ministry of Finance.

Interestingly, these decisions were made by the PM & his administration because they saw the value in those two persons who both had a skillset that could be put to good use towards nation  building even though they were once viewed as a political enemy.

Sadly, in some organizations, some persons are being taken for granted and are not given the recognition for who they truly are and for what they truly worth. Such practices happens in the workplace, in our homes and even in our social lives as husbands & wives or boyfriends and girlfriends.

Many of these persons who are overlooked have the ability to bring great value to the table. However, because of age or their socio-economic or academic background, they find their growth in the organization becoming stunted and hence, get treated in a condescending manner.

Surprisingly, UPP got a wakeup call.  They need to treat their members right. In such short order, Dwayne George,  Cleon Athill and now,  the bright spark, the Hon Anthony Smith chose to cut ties from UPP. Supporters and members of the organization are still trying to come to grips with the mystery.

Clearly, a lesson had to be learnt from that  movement. No one should be taken for granted. In addition,  ” What is rubbish to one man can become a treasure for another”.

Both individuals, Dwayne George & Anthony Smith were both taken for granted and were not given the due justice that they duly deserved in UPP. On the other hand, UPP’s political enemy Gaston Brown & his administration, realized that those two “overlooked” individuals had value within them and hence welcomed them with open arms as treasures into the ABLP family, notwithstanding the fact that they are also both Antiguans and Barbudans who have much to offer to building our nation.

I am surprise that Richard Lewis has not left UPP as yet for the disrespect & the undermining treatment he has received from the UPP hierarchy.

Giselle, Bowen & Shawn Nicholas are others who I have my eyes on to revoke their membership from the opposition party soon. Gisele because of the political pressure that she is receiving to step down as chairperson & Bowen because he’s surrounded by an immature & inexperienced cohort of MP’s & Shawn because of the retrogression of the organization.

Our PM must be given credit for the ambitious move he made to accept the two opposition  members into his ABLP administration. It clearly demonstrates that PM Browne and his ABLP colleagues see partisan politics on his agenda as secondary and have Antiguans regardless of their political persuasion as primary for nation building, so that the country can move to the next level of transforming  our country into an economic powerhouse.

  1. UPP was forewarned. They have to blame themselves for what is happening to them. It is obvious that PM Browne is more than a force to reckon with & the best leader the world has ever seen.

  2. @ The circus was in town

FITZROY IS MORE THAN AN IDIOT. HE IS AN AZZZ.

I just hate when people patronise us as though we are stupid.

Plainly put, Anthony and Dwayne like JUDAS sold their souls for thirty pieces or 6,000,000 million pieces of silver. NO ONE WILL EVER TRUST THEM AGAIN. THE WORD TREACHEROUS COMES TO MIND. THEIR CONSCIENCES ARE SEARED WITH IRON.

  3. AINT GITTEN EEN TAH NAH DARN ARGAMONT (VERNACULAR)

‘…Wah garn bhad ah marneen, cayah khom guud ah eveneen’ (Vernacular).

    SENTIMENTALITY v REALITY

None shall be fooled by ‘…SENTIMENTALITY.’ Time to face ‘…REALITY.’

    NATIONAL ANTHEM

    (i) ‘…Absolutely correct with the quote from the ‘…National Anthem-

    (a) ‘…Ever striving; and

    (b) …Ever seeking’ [Paragraph 2].

These are what the ‘…Genuinely ambitious: …Ravenous Opportunist: and sometimes, the …Dangerously depraved’ does to worldwide: ‘…Societies: …Institutions: and …Organizations.

    HUNGRY LION MENTALITY

These speak to the ‘…Hungry Lion Mentality.’

    MISNOMER

(ii) ‘…Except for a ‘MISNOMER,’ the ‘…Honorable Member’ could never be considered ‘…an
    INDEPENDENT MEMBER’ [Paragraph 3].

    WHY?
    (a) ‘…Never so contested the National Elections;
    (b) …Never so elected or mandated by the electorate; and
(c ) …Even if he consumed a ‘…whole Bottle of English Harbor Rum,’ or becomes ‘…FEEBLE-
MINDED,’ not even the learned ‘…House ‘Speaker’ could so declare or address him in
the Chamber of House of Representatives;’ and

    (d) …Not yet demented, the ‘…Honorable Speaker’ knows that his intellect would offend
    …SECTION 41 (e) of the Constitution Order’ [CO: No. 1106: 1981].

    NOW

WHAT OF ‘…SECTION 69 (4)’ that speaks to ‘…APPOINTMENT OF MINISTERS?’

    WALK GOOD.

  4. … And @ Fitzroy, let’s also hope that ABLP Members also learn to put Antigua & Barbuda first before Gaston Browne.

If these – fully paid up – charlatans stop protecting this deceitful Prime Minister, and REVEAL what the great citizens of this country suspects; then Gaston Browne will be TURFED OUT of office sooner than we think.

Who’ll be BRAVE enough to come forward to blow the whistle on Gaston Browne in the ABLP?

IF YOU DO, YOU’LL BE GUARANTEED THE LEADERSHIP UNTIL UPP TAKE THE REIGNS IN 2028.

If any of you are really PATRIOTIC to this great great country of ours – just do it!

OUR DEMOCRACY IS AT STAKE …

  5. Here’s a few apt lines from our National Anthem to help any possible ABLP whistle-blowers:

🎶” Raise the standard! Raise it boldly!
    Answer now to duty’s call
To the service of thy country,
    Sparing nothing, giving all …”🎶

    YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU 🫵🏾

  6. Whether UPP takes its members for granted can never justify such treachery @Fitzroy. Spin it all you want, but do some introspection of ALP.
Lamisha and Burton are shoved aside for a 6 million dollar traitor; the person who won the ASESL primary is shoved aside like garbage. The flip-floppers and prostitutes are given positions on boards, high paying positions, senatorship and ministries, while the loyal ALP supporters are given squat. Is this not the ultimate disregard? But the Labourites are such lowlifes, called degrading names by the DAWG, they can’t see light for the love of party.
In time, ALP will be GLP.
