LETTER: Lara should not apologize to Sir Viv

Lara should not apologize

Sir Viv Richards has been known for his swagger, beaming confidence and fearless batsmanship, however the same way he gives talk, he has to be able to take it.

Sir Viv had a go at Denesh Ramdin in 2012 against England, that was his opinion, entitled to it, said it publicly and Denesh Ramdin is entitled to respond in the same fashion.

So, if the Prince of Port of Spain has an opinion of Viv’s dressing room behavior, Viv is entitled to deny it, and in the end, roll the credits.

So, a batter like Lara, Ramdin or anyone for that matter, cannot be viewed as a lesser cricketer than him, because the job title is to generate runs, and win matches, helmet or not.

Sir Viv’s hierarchy behavior towards a young Lara, by tossing his kit out of the QP Oval’s dressing room and waking him from a nap and forcing him to watch the rain fall in 1989 proves that.

Sir Viv himself didn’t come out and publicly deny those events, so Carl Hooper allegedly did in fact shed a tear every now and again because of Viv. Carl probably doesn’t want to look weak, probably more the mortar outside of this.

That kind of behavior breaks every safeguarding rule in modern sport.

In a team sport, everybody is equal, when performance doesn’t warrant a place in the team is a decision for the selectors, the coach and management, not another player, even if your name is Viv Richards.

Lara should not apologize; Viv needs to humble himself.

  1. Two icons going at it. Maybe Prince Lara should never have written what he wrote in his book. Certain matters should be left in the locker room never to see outside of it. So whether Carl cried or Sir Viv cursed should never now be a topic for public discussion and or opinion. Let sleeping dogs sleep. All three human beings sent us into raptures. All three are my heroes. Sir Viv is an icon and that’s all that matters. Hopefully these young ones can send us into rapture one more time.

  2. What have become of my guy Carl Hooper ..those days of watching cricket was worth the while..

  3. Many humans would say and do most things for money. Most humans would not do those things that many would have done.If Brian Lara sensationalized the story in the book written by him.If it was not true.He should not have written it,to get book sales.A lie is a lie.Regardless of who is the liar and telling it.

  4. What have become of my guy.. Carl Hooper ..
Those were the days when watching cricket was worth your while..

  5. I totally agree, I really believe that how you live is the most important thing
Besides the cricket world etc.. he was a really good cricketer .. but life after is about humility and that is what really matters..

  6. Certain omme ts should be left in the locker room eh? His attitude …up to now, and what apology does he really want anyway? Why should he leave it out of his book? Isn’t that part of his whole experience?

  7. I am floored by the dumb, asanine comments here.
Sir Viv needs to humble himself? Is there any humbler? Sir Viv is arrogant? Such stupidity! The only arrogance he displayed was on the field of play and that was what made him legendary.
Again, Carl Hooper confirmed what Sir Viv stated, that Lara lied, and in the mouth of two or three witnesses…
Lara was a selfish individual, concerned primarily with stats. To me, he was a big part of the steady downturn of West Indies cricket.
This article was inexplicably shallow and perhaps the explanation lies in the footer

  8. U CHATTING BULL … EVEN YOUR SENTANCE STRUCTURE SUGGEST THAT …LARA DON’T HAVE THE INTERNATIONAL PRESENCE VIV STILL EVOKES … YEARS AFTER HIS GLIRY DAYS, AND THAT AH KILL LARA. ANY MAJOR CRICKETI G / SPORTING EVENT AROUND THE WORLD IS GRACED BY HIS PRESENCE. IN 2024 STILL .. WHEN VIV ARIVES IN ENGLAND IS LIKE CRICKETING ROYALTY.

TECK THAT IN YOU BUMBOO CLAART LARA .

  9. Brian Lara must apologize to sir Vivian Richards and Carl Hooper, for the lies he told in his book.

  10. God do not care about who is sir, mr. KING, QUEEN, etc…
Life after is about how you lived and following Gods principles… we are so lost in this world about stiupid fame and prestige they are only humans ….

  11. The difference between people like Lara and Chanderpaul is they were excellent cricketers, though selfish and was only interested in their stats.

They got the stats but no prestige because they did not leave their heart on the pitch.

Viv left his heart out there beating the colonizers at their game was everything to him. That is why he respected throughout the world.

It’s not his stats, it’s his heart. Ones and ones must know this.

  12. Facts n opinion are very different. Opinion should never be conveyed as facts and from the reading in the book, Lara made it look like he is reporting factual events when both person said it is not. So some retraction is needed on this. That’s all. Cursing Viv because U might not like him is not the issue here.

  13. Apologize for what?…hooper was a lazy player who needed a kick up his arse…I only wished Viv was more tough on him, would have made him live up to his wasted talent…
