Dear Editor,
As a former parliamentarian and a citizen who supports the two party system, I am very concern about the lack of interest I am seeing in the United Progressive Party for the political affairs of the country.

We are getting the usual talk shop that is almost meaningless in such a highly political environment we live in.
There are some mobilization Sundays and they look to me like internal affairs. Putting Zizi on the radio every morning to say the same thing and talk to the same callers is not the answer.
Having a radio station and very little political programs does not make sense.
When will UPP start talking politically to people to convince them to support them in the next election?
Do they think because they came close last time they will do it next time?
To think so is to be politically foolish and not in touch with their base nor voters who want to hear more from them.
It is like they have given up and are now only care about having barebcues.
Now I see they are having a ball where the women can dress up and do girl stuff.
Where are the men in the party? Have they gone hiding under petticoats?
Is the party tired of all the body blows Gaston Brown has given them and they are throwing their hands up in defeat?
Have they agreed to let the woman take over and just walk away? Just like me, people are confused about what is happening in the UPP.
It looks like none of them have any interest in doing the politics.
I understand that most of the branches are not operating and the leadership has been smothered by the my way or the highway approached by the chairman.
Many of us were hopeful when Harold Lovell made his bold announcement Only he left in the middle of everything and put back everything in the hands of the caretaker who was there in the first place.
That makes no sense to me. Either he’s in or out.
He can’t do politics on his break from school.
He is the hope that UPP has now and if he too does not have the heart for it then he should keep his a-se in Canada and give back the constituency to Coats.
This is serious stuff.
At his age he is getting his last chance. Depends if he wants it or not.

It’s never been about the UPP NOT showing a lack of interest. How about the writer acknowledging that the media landscape right here in Antigua & Barbuda is literally pro ABLP – it has been for as long as I can remember.
It is so sad at how the media propaganda machine continually ignores members of the opposition. For example, at our last General Election, I was not only so looking forward to what the UPP had to say to the voting public, but also the DNA party as well (no wonder they gave up in the end)..
All I can recollect was that ABLP were going to do this, that and everything damn ting, which turned out to be pure hogwash until just a few months ago.
I was hoping that the writer of his nonsensical “opinion” piece had noticed the media imbalance as well.

Tell me which former parliamentarian is afraid of making his opinion known that hw/she would write an anonymous letter to a labor party news portal.

Ok, minor nitpick we do not have a 2 party system we have a parliamentary system but the voting system we currently use promotes 2 party because parties with a similar ideology but to a lesser degree example UPP make up being made PLM, ABDP, ACLM if they dissolve, all being left-wing will fight for the same supporters which making it basically a default ALP is probably why they united under a coalition. Asott was criticising the voting system before he was murdered probably due to that fact.
Now I disagree with the party is not showing any interesting they been pushing along well I’ve never heard anyone said they are not interested only about them being divided and disorganized with their internal affairs.
I do agree next election should be Lovell’s last election being 70 is pushing it and should step down to give to someone hopefully below the retirement age. But at the end of the day the policies shouldn’t come soley from him all he needs to do is listen to people’s issues and implement policies to fix them.

Just look at that talk show in the morning with 20 or less viewers. The nasty and distasteful words one eats have to endure while listening the daily propaganda, the use of bad words by the host and callers along with level of dinceness. Blue don’t have a clue!!!!

The letter writer is obviously a labour party supporter who is trying to ruffle the UPP but I am not going to rubbish everything he said. I voted UPP and will do so again simply because the ABLP is corrupt to the core. The radio programs on both Observer and Crusader radio stations not ready yet. The Saturday program on Rum Shop Radio is beating them and they are supposed to be tone drunk
The UPP needs LEADERSHIP. They were riding the coattails of the Alfa Nero then that fizzled out, so now they are lost. Running around like headless chickens trying to invent some straws to grasp.
Pringle can’t call figures (just like Baldwin Spencer). Neither does he possess any critical thinking skills

The question should be this..what is the elected administration doing? They were elected to bring Antigua and Antiguan’s to prominence, and all that I’ve seen happened(honestly speaking) is that Antigua has gone to the dumbs under this administration. And if Antigua was Already in the dumps, this administration has made it worse.
They are the one in office where the island has become a crime zone under their leadership.
Someone on here said that UPP has no leadership, but if this present administration is what leadership looks like, God help us all.
Since 2019 it has been scandal after scandal with this administration. Prove me wrong and call an opinion vote right now,and I guarantee you that majority of Antiguan’s will tell you that they are in fear of their lives in their own beds at night.
So the question again is this.. what the hell is the present government doing?
