Dear Editor,
I am a public servant who is still waiting on back pay that has been repeatedly promised. Calling treasury would make sense if it were
possible.

But the ongliest phone number provided to the public is almost never answered and they don’t no email address, no online portal, no alternative method of communication.
Instead me must take time off from work, drive down town, find parking space, and stand up in a line, just to ask basic questions about money government owe me.
This is unacceptable. Why are we being made to navigate a system frozen in the 1990s.
This is ironic especially since this is the self-same government advocating for the adoption of artificial intelligence and digital transformation for over a year. And yet a core financial department cannot even reliably pick-up a receiver to answer a phone.
Is not a favour I’m begging. I’m not even asking for transparency, or accountability. I just want basic access to information about my money that they said belong to me.
A functioning communication system at the Treasury is the bare minimum – multiple phone lines that at people answer with professionalism and information, email support, or an online inquiry system.
But that is too much to ask….maybe AI is the way… maybe it would have paid me since last week, answer the phone and even contact me in advance to let me know yes, the money will be late but it’s coming, the bank didn’t steal your coppers.
Respectfully,- Disrespected

Wow
Dear letter writer the only one who can let you know if treasury is broke is Gaston and most people I know say he is not a friend of the truth
Back pay from 8 years ago I talking about. But THIS YEAR NAR PASS, ME SAY!
Yes. It is.
But he does not give a f#*-ck. As long as he can take out the last $1m left in the building maintenance money to give back to exam students parents who would vote for him because they got some money back, they don’t care about tomorrow.
Most of it is will be spent on the concert this weekend anyway.
You can bet your last dollar, that the Cabinet members nor the GG is having this problem.
I feel for you..good luck 😕 with your waiting!
Only in antigua.
Antiguans, not so much Barbudans reminds me of Americans, they keep the people in power who only care about themselves and families and the Licksplittlers who grovel for the crumbs that drop off the table
I could have written this letter. The “ongliest” thing is I resigned from the system.
Since 2024, they said they owed me for the time I worked. Whether I am still a government employee or not should not matter, I qualify for the time period they mentioned and Treasury did confirm I was listed to receive retroactive pay but UP TO NOW, me cyar get my money.
And yes, Treasury is outdated in how they relate to the public which is why I believe, people who are skilled enough to leave the government sector are probably more deserving of backpay than people stuck working for them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course the Treasury is empty, isn’t that obvious?
When you come in the middle of the year after you already made your budget, and squeeze the people for another $100mil to build roads, isn’t it obvious that you are broke.
When you come in the middle of the year, after you have already made your budget, to raise ABST by 2%, isn’t it obvious that the Treasury is empty?
When you are going after peoples social security money to invest in a failed Hotel, isn’t obvious that you are broke? 😂
The budget of a government is the same as a budget you have in your very own household, it’s no difference. When you go out a buy what you can’t afford, and run out of money, then you go out a trust from the shop keeper and borrow from the mega man.
So yes to your question. But I guess you already knew the answer.. 😂
