Dear Editor

In recent times Social Security has been the topic of national discussion.

Persons have become very dissatisfied with how their contributions have been managed and how certain aspects of the scheme is operated.

From pensions, to sickness & maternity payments not paid on time to no infrastructure on the lands at Paynters to Social Security funds been used as an investment in a hotel has peaked the people interest and the people’s cry.

Added to the list of wows,  the issuing of ID cards seems to have taken some additional steps backwards.  Persons no longer can walk in and apply for their cards.  Surprisingly,  an appointment has to be made and subsequently, a date will be given as to when the person can return to execute the application.

Medical Benefits on the hand, which seems to operate on a similar platform, allow their customers to walk in into office, process their application and allow the person to leave with their card. The process only takes about 10 to 15 mins. Why then does Social Security have to be different? Is this a case that Social Security is  retrogressing.

The management team need to get their act together. They seem to be running the institution to the ground.

Alex

  1. And why the cards expire????
They should only expire you dead. I find this so stupid.
    Same thing with medical benefits.

  2. Totally agree with the letter writer, Medical Benefits is light years ahead of Social Security in terms of service

  3. Social Security has always served as a piggy bank and cash register for the ABLP. From time to time the politicians raid the bank.
They are aided and abetted by individuals of note who are Board Members who rubber stamp the politicians request.
The weak and corrupt media sits by and the opposition politicians prove to be useless even in moment of crisis.

  4. According to the politicians and the professors at UWI Five Islands what you are experiencing is Ai efficiency at work.

  5. Dear Alex

It is clear as crystal that those in authority are robots. They are cued up to look in one direction and cannot think out of the box….

Placing square pegs in round holes is perhaps the down fall Social Security

  6. @ This always the season for g-strings, bikinis and debucharyThis always the season for g-strings, bikinis and debuchary:

Social Security is not only a cashcow for ABLP but it is also a cashcow for the hierarchy & friends at the SS institution.

You can ask Mr. Lennox Weston, the former ABLP politician.

  7. In the meantime my wait time for my pension is coming up to a year! I applied last year September 2024! Haven’t received a red cent yet!
