Dear Honorable Members of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda,
I am writing to express my deep concern about the growing threat posed by individuals who sell marijuana to school-aged children and teenagers. I respectfully urge the Government to consider introducing stronger penalties for drug dealers who knowingly target or supply minors.
Children and teenagers are at a critical stage of their physical, emotional, and mental development. Exposure to drugs at a young age can negatively affect their ability to learn, make sound decisions, and achieve their full potential. It can also increase the risk of addiction, poor academic performance, mental health challenges, and involvement in criminal activity later in life.
Those who choose to sell drugs to minors are not simply breaking the law—they are exploiting young people who may not fully understand the consequences of their actions. Such behavior places families, schools, and communities at risk and undermines the efforts of parents, teachers, and youth organizations working to guide young people toward productive lives.
Implementing tougher penalties for offenders who sell marijuana to minors would send a clear message that the Government is committed to protecting children and safeguarding the nation’s future. Stronger consequences may also serve as a deterrent to those who profit from targeting vulnerable young people.
While enforcement is essential, I also encourage continued investment in education, prevention programs, counseling services, and community outreach. By combining stronger legal consequences with effective prevention and rehabilitation initiatives, Antigua and Barbuda can take a balanced approach that both protects young people and addresses the root causes of drug use.
Our nation’s youth deserve safe environments where they can learn, grow, and pursue their dreams without being exposed to those who seek to profit from their vulnerability. I respectfully ask the Government to review existing laws and consider measures that impose harsher penalties on anyone convicted of selling marijuana to school-aged children and teenagers.

In the caribbean as a whole using weed has been turned into a cultural right and children are exposed from babies with their parents using openly in front of them so by the time they are teenagers it is a right of passage for them and they know were to get it ! This a societal problem that should be confronted and stigmatized by whole community or the government and police are powerless to address it.
