LETTER: Gaston’s offer of assistance too late

Dear Editor,

I read in full, a statement on your website, where Prime Minister Gaston Browne has offered assistance to Dominica.

I view this as an attempt by the country’s leader to insert himself in a messy situation in which Antigua and Barbuda does not belong.

The fact remains that Ross University has already left the island. This was announced last week by Ross and the Dominica Prime Minister Skerrit, who by the way has plunged the country into disaster with his mismanagement.

Gaston’s offer came too late and there is no way Ross is returning to Dominica.

In any event, his promise to waive certain in-transit taxes for Ross students going to Dominica will have no impact at all on the school’s decision.

He also promised to support Dominicans living here but was vague on specifics.

I have to conclude therefore that Gaston’s offer was simply attention seeking and symbolic since there was never any prospect of Ross returning to Dominica.

So PM, mind your damn business and take care of all the students on your scholarship programme who probably won’t get a dime this year because the country broke.

Minding my business.

  2. What an idiotic letter. This is not A&B biz yet we stand to lose in terms of traffic to our airport hence airport revenue. Less opportunities in Dominica also means more Dominican’s looking at places like A&B for work. If the Dominican economy fails, it will have an impact on all of us, since we share the same currency. Ross contributed some 109 million yearly to the Dominica economy hence 19% of its GDP. Our family is bleeding so Boss yes it is our business

  3. Gaston need to pay the service providers of carnival, pay the back pay and over time to civil servants, pay the government contractors and tap mind Dominica business.
