LETTER: Enough is enough

DEAR EDITOR:

It is with a heavy heart and sound mind I sit and write this article, knowing that it may never leave the newsroom.

But if it does, we the staff at the ABTB attached to the Motorpool department are seeking the correct procedure in asking for the removal of our board members.

 

Constantly victimized by managers and heads of department, we are ready to take a stand and we really draw the line now.

 

How can there be a board that is supposed to fight for the rights of their staff, turn a blind eye to the things that take place on an everyday basis.

 

When the staff are finished working, we would like to feel confident enough in knowing that there is a work bus to take us home after a long day’s work.

 

Today the majority of the staff were left at the roadside without any form of transportation.

 

How is it ok to treat your staff this way? We called on union reps everyone no one hear the cries of our mistreatment.

 

I hope ABTB is ready for the upcoming backlash that is about to happen.

  1. YOU really believe the company is responsible to give you a ride home? That concept is amazing to me. You are asking for the removal of a board because you are not getting a ride home? You started out with victimization, does that also have to do with a ride home or something else? Why did you not address the way your managers treat you with some examples but certainty I do not believe anyone is responsible to get you home but you. What about getting to work, do you need a ride as well? While you are hot, what would you like for lunch?

  2. As a founding member of the ABTB I would like to point out that the Board was established to advise the Minister on all matters pertaining to the transportation sector.
    The Board, in turn, employs Managers to run the day to day operations of the various departments. Employment of staff should fall under the various departments heads after submission to The Board for ratification.
    When staff are experiencing problems with their managers, they should seek their union’s assistance. There are various ‘right’s’ that have been negotiated for within the bargaining rights of the unions. If the union is doing nothing, as it seems is being suggested, and I really fail to see a union being inactive in the face of legitimate complaints by their members, but if it be so, then I would suggest the staff seek a meeting with The Board. Calling for the removal of The Board is not the first or even second course of action to be taken. The Board is answerable to the Minister, therefore, if their dissatisfaction is with The Board, then seek an audience with The Minister. When all else fails, then you take more drastic actions.

  3. It is a written agreement between the board and union that emplyees should be bus to and from work at a point where they are supposed to picked up and dropped off. The establishment G M needs to stop his victimization of staff and even some that holds position, the gentleman that they have running the Motor Pool he doesn’t know how to treat his staff he doesn’t have any respect at all. It is time for the Government to look into that establishment to much going on.

  4. This story is amazing. Not in agreement with the decision to transport worker to and from work. You want a job not the job want you. If every Department of Govt or statuary Corporation should have this policy it would have been very tough on the Company. I have no problem if the Company transport give employees a ride going in their direction but not a policy to pick up and drop off. For argument sake…so if the transport fails to pick up a work would he/she not go to work?

  5. Why did a whole bus carrying home one person ever day straight that seems like that person have some kind of dealings with the manager that is at the motorpool department….. Every staff must be treated the same cause all of us are human beings…. And motorpool have to much watch man and supervisor round this place….. A staff bus should be there to carry east personel not only person that is going to bus station (East or West) cause some people cant afford to pay bus go home cause they paying employees enough money.
