To the Editor,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the current state of affairs at ABEMS, particularly in relation to the lack of effective leadership, employee harassment and victimization, low morale among employees, absence of department meetings, inadequate working conditions, absence of insurance coverage for employees, and the absence of a structured pay scale.
These issues are not only detrimental to the well-being of the employees but also have a direct impact on the quality of service provided by ABEMS.
Lack of Leadership at EMS Antigua
One of the most pressing issues at ABEMS is the lack of effective leadership. A leader is expected to provide direction, guidance, and support to the employees. However, the current leadership at ABEMS has failed to fulfill these responsibilities.
The absence of a clear vision and direction has resulted in confusion and disarray among the employees. As a result, the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the EMS Antigua have been compromised.
Leadership Harassment and Victimization of Employees
In addition to the lack of effective leadership, there have been reports of harassment and victimization of employees by the leadership at ABEMS.
This behavior is not only unacceptable but also creates a toxic work environment that is detrimental to the well-being of the employees.
The leadership should be held accountable for their actions and steps should be taken to ensure a safe and respectful work environment for all employees.
Low Morale Among Employees
The lack of effective leadership and the presence of harassment and victimization have contributed to a significant decline in morale among the employees at ABEMS. Low morale can have a detrimental impact on the overall performance of the organization.
It can lead to decreased productivity, increased absenteeism, and a negative work culture. It is imperative that the leadership takes steps to address the root causes of low morale and work towards creating a positive and supportive work environment.
Absence of Department Meetings
It is alarming to note that ABEMS has not held a department meeting in more than seven years. Department meetings are crucial for communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.
The absence of these meetings has resulted in a lack of coordination and a disconnect among the employees.
It is essential that regular department meetings are reinstated to facilitate open communication and to address any concerns or issues that the employees may have.
Inadequate Working Conditions
The working conditions at ABEMS are substandard, with reports of mold in the building and the roof falling apart. These conditions not only pose a health risk to the employees but also create a sense of discomfort and unease.
It is the responsibility of the management to ensure that the working environment is safe, clean, and conducive to productivity.
Immediate action should be taken to address the issues of mold and the deteriorating roof to ensure the well-being of the employees.
Lack of Insurance Coverage for Employees
Another critical issue at ABEMS is the lack of insurance coverage for the employees. Employee insurance is essential to provide financial protection and security in the event of illness, injury, or other unforeseen circumstances.
The absence of insurance coverage leaves the employees vulnerable and adds to their financial burden. It is imperative that EMS Antigua takes steps to provide comprehensive insurance coverage for all its employees.
Absence of a Structured Pay Scale
The absence of a structured pay scale at ABEMS is a matter of great concern. A structured pay scale is essential to ensure fairness, transparency, and equity in compensation. Without a clear and structured pay scale, there is a risk of favoritism, discrimination, and dissatisfaction among the employees.
It is essential that ABEMS establishes a structured pay scale that is based on merit, experience, and industry standards to ensure that all employees are fairly compensated for their work.
In conclusion, the issues outlined above are of utmost concern and require immediate attention and action from the management at ABEMS and the Minister of Health.
It is imperative that the leadership takes proactive steps to address the lack of effective leadership, employee harassment and victimization, low morale, absence of department meetings, inadequate working conditions, lack of insurance coverage, and the absence of a structured pay scale.
The well-being of the employees and the quality of service provided by ABEMS are at stake, and it is essential that these issues are addressed to ensure a positive and sustainable work environment.
Sincerely, Bounty

Question: Exactly which Government ministry does the ABEMS fall under? Enquiring minds want to know???
Yall forgot to mention about the unsafe ambulances mainly medic 3 that a rackle and want take you off the road sometimes. And them new ones they just got recently with poor lighting that makes it difficult to work in the night cause you struggling to see and not forgetting how they can’t work when rain come cause they leaking just like the building.
Then y’all strike(every department)for two days and show them y’all serious. The hospital itself is under shambles to the citizens of Antigua. The tools and machines to work with. Y’all need a better health care system here. All y’all need to get on board and scratch one another’s back. The bull shit I’ve seen up there. You will find one and two lovely nurses and doctors but jeee whiz the rest don’t take their work serious is almost like they doing it for the money. The team now, hmphhhhh…. Y’all need a shift over, change over make over. I miss the nurses and team that use to operat eunder Holberton. I don’t know where they get some of you from. The way how y’all deal with patients sick my stomach . Big and serious y’all gotta fight for that. Whoever bigger head is in charge or responsible investigate them and get them the hell out. Too much bull shit happen in Antigua and it’s like a place known to get away with things .
I guess from the outside looking in you’ll see a lot of nice things. But when you have to encounter things that nurses and Doctor encounter, you will say something different. There is no money in nursing my dear, so nobody is there for the money to be treated poorly and be disrespected everyday. How you expect that is gonna play out ? You don’t understand you have to be Fair if the condition that nurses and doctor has to work under is so poor how you expect them to function when they have the personal life work-life to deal with. Why don’t you say change the minister of health and the leader in charge? Changing the nurses and doctors are not gonna make matters better. If you have a diabetic foot , you think putting a bandaid on it will heal and get it better for good? You’re talking about nurses not be nice. Do you think they are being treated nicely?
Some of you patients that come there. You are rude and disrespectful. You expect to take your problems from home come to the nurses place of work and throw them in the nurses and doctors faces and you are expecting them to take it with a grain of salt. As if they are not human and some of your relatives that come to visit, you’re sick family member. You are rude and disrespectful too and you expecting nurses to lie flat on the floor for you to walk on them and when they stand up and defend themselves u have a problem there is no one else to defend them. You all have a problem with everything nurses does Nurses are human, just like you. Talk to Molwin Joseph and Gaston Brown and help them to fix it. Everyone hammering nurses n refused to listen to their cries no one concerns about the poor working conditions, disrespect from management, victimization, favoritism, poor structures of theschedule the lack or care and concern for the nurses and their families ect.
If a nurse or their family members took sick they are been treated just as everyone else nothing is put in place for staff u share the same admition room with everyone else nothing is put in place If a patient is being admitted to a particular unit and that nurse that admitted the patient took sick the next day and has to be admitted that nurse would go in the same room with the patient she cared for yesterday and everyone will see everyone business. There is a nurse that worked in emergency her husband died there. She asked to remove from the emergency room because whenever time she went there to work, she became broken, and she had to be fighting emotional to survive there while working the trauma and and pain she had to endure and hey would never move that individual. Now i would want you to tell me how do you expect that person to function? And whenever time that individual refuse to function in the way that they suppose to, they have been pulled in management office with no concern or feelings for that nurse. So do your research before you come and speak negatively or look down on the nurses who are working above and beyond and bending backwards. You are so ungrateful to the nurses are they made from stones?
Persons are still wait on their covid compensation that Molwin promises.
This behavior starts at the top.
It’s always heartbreaking to hear that someone has been abused by a narcissist.
It can be an incredibly challenging and painful ordeal.
A change is gonna come
What is needed is an office of INSPECTOR GENERAL authorized to do procedural audits and re-write operating procedures. IG reports to the office of the PM and not the ministry. Job is to recommend action after investigating complaints. This is about saving lives and should be taken seriously. The entire healthcare system needs revamping from top to bottom. Tired of all the complaints and the OBVIOUS misgivings
The covid game passing away and all the ex – chimps stars starting crying for their belly rubbery comfort. And again, you retards support and bright as MOVIE STARS now, after your ill sickly fate past…your welcome!!!! A toilet paper have more to do than yours TRAITOR OF MANKIND .
These conditions as abhorrent as they are; becomes normalized as a result of the political ideology which has morphed into cultural behaviors.
Your elections are rigged, to maintain the status quo.
Until The ECUMINICALS (The Antigua and Barbuda Evangelical Alliance and The Antigua Christian Council Leaders) stop sleeping with the politicians, absolutely nothing will change.
