Dear Editor,
I was very disappointed and angry to see a video on social media where the DJ at Abracadabra was basically inciting the party goers, to what could have been a riot, because music had to be shut down at 1am.
He was cursing the National Parks Authority. It was a similar incitement that got Trump impeached for the Jan 6th insurrection.
But of course our Police did not arrest him. The video is still out there and he should be charged.
The Noise Abatement Act 1997 is a law that was passed in Parliament and covers the whole of Antigua and Barbuda. National Parks or indeed no entity except the Police can enforce this law.
In fact it was Assistant Police Commissioner Wade, in a public consultation, who recommended that the Noise Abatement Law be implemented since hotels and residents were being affected by the loud noise, late into foreday morning.
I now understand that the Prime Minister has given instructions that the Police and National Parks should back off and not enforce the Law of the Land. How is this possible?
Is the Cabinet more powerful than the Laws of the Land? Can the Cabinet decide what laws are to be implemented? What kind of lawless country have we become?
Laws are laws.

Yes the cabinet can be more powerful than the laws of the land! In fact our new generation soon take that dam dumb section law book and throw out the window or burn it. I hope I am here on this land to see this! seem like u who wrote the papers wanted the dj to lie, he told the truth, get a life!
Abracadabra has been a staple of English harbor and dockyard entertainment for more than a decade and to just impose laws created to cause irritation and eventual shutdown of said dance club. For shame of national park committee. Frustration can lead to rebellion. Please don’t rope our nation in your political views.
Rum, sex, drugs which accompany these forms of entertainment which props up the tourism industry is causing much mental and physical illnesses and definitely cause more harm than good in the long run.
“…DJ at Abracadabra was basically inciting the party goers, to what could have been a riot…” Whoever wrote this letter needs to chill. The night life in English Harbour supports an entire micro-economy during the few months that season is open. Everyone from the club owners to taxi drivers and food vendors make money when the night life is on. The disappointment among the tourists and yachties who paid their entrance fee only to be told they have to go home 2 hours later was embarrassing.
Complain should be: why is National Parks trying so hard to destroy the nightlife of English Harbor? There are plenty other islands for yachts to sail to… Sxm is waiting and laughing about our politics:/
Look just settle because this is BS. With the blue jeans fete keeping the whole of Hodges bay and Crosbies up until 8am. Give us all a break. The noise abatement order is a selective law that government will weaponise and use to raise money by issuing fines. But they will let those indigenous Antiguans go and do as they like. Breakfast fetes at the airport cause inconvenience from early morning in Coolidge and they happen without any enforcement. So let’s call it what it really is as we all know that the clampdowns that government and the police concoct for English harbour never carry over to the rest of the island. This is the textbook definition of discrimination. Let’s call it like it is. Until the law is for all it is persecution
