Concern into Increasing Utility, Water, and INET Data Charges

I am writing to express my growing concern over the significant and unexplained increases in my utility, water, and INET bills over recent months.

As a single occupant in my household, I have neither changed my usage patterns nor added any additional appliances or devices. Despite this, my bills have increased at a seemingly rapid pace.

My electricity bill, for instance, seems to be rising faster than expected based on the voltage provided, while my water bill is escalating with little change in water pressure or usage.

This sudden and sustained increase in both areas raises questions about the billing calculations currently in place.

Moreover, my experience with INET data usage has been equally puzzling.

For a long time, I have relied on a monthly mobile data plan that typically provides ample data and allows for rollovers, which I consistently utilize. Recently, however, since APUA upgraded the mobile app, I have noticed that my data is depleting at an unprecedented rate.

In just 12 days, my data usage supposedly reached 22GB, an amount I have never approached before, especially as I primarily use my mobile data for essential, low-bandwidth tasks.

I am also concerned that this new app upgrade may be impacting data consumption or recalculating usage in a way that is neither clear nor transparent.

APUA, I urge you to clarify the factors contributing to these escalating charges and changes in usage rates. Is there an underlying issue in the billing algorithms, or does the new app upgrade impact data usage and billing?

Transparent communication regarding these changes would help your customers better understand and plan their utility usage without unnecessary financial strain.

  2. like digicel increasing there rates and the service is poor, I paid my bill and it took more than 5 hours to be restored. all of these service providers are full of crap!!

  3. Well have you gone to them? What did they tell you?

With regards to your water and electricity bills, are you looking to make sure that the readings are correct and they are not being estimated?

I live in a household of 6 and I cannot say that my bills have increased beyond regular usage. Check your bills people and make sure to inquire if the readings are off.

  4. like digicel increasing their rates and the service is poor, I paid my bill and it took more than 5 hours foe it to be restored. all of these service providers are full of crap!!

  5. I complain, justifiably, about the roads here but dealing with APUA is another form of hell. I have gone out of my way to not totally rely on them by installing a home solar system with battery backup and a new cistern but this wasn’t cheap. Still, the internet service is another headache. I have been waiting patiently for Elon Musk’s Starlink service to get approved by the government (I am aware of some Starlink panel sightings on both islands) for super fast and reliable service that would make APUA’s internet service (and their existing competition) look even worse than it already does.

  6. Flow is ripping us off too. No proper cable system. Channels off most of the day. No proper signals. Month’s plan finishing in mid month. Laaawdd, who is there to rescue us?

  7. Bunch of theives internet, water and electricity rip off all around. Internet in Antigua and Barbuda is shitty don’t care which provider it is horrible. We are just waisting money and can’t get proper service and these providers has no shame, they are happily rubbing citizens and no one is being held accountable.

  8. Well! When the Baldwin Spencer administration got to office in 2004, it had proposed a utility commission like Barbados, but with the hadeed interest becoming part of his government,we can see why that was overlooked, on to APUA, if APUA continue to suppress electricity, the revenue generated from a natural operation of the metering function comes to a stand still, and so the APUA accountant uses past historical data to correct their deficit to continue salary payments, APUA got to get modernize by working on the electricity live like Barbados and Trinidad and the USVI, and a lot of anomaly remains in Apua because it was formed by the then walters PLM administration, so when the ALP got back to office they neglect APUA in terms of pension scheme among other things, APUA should not be responsible for electrical inspection of home which is a conflict of interest when there become an electrical fault or damages, that should be the DCA and independent body, and the idea of supplying full clothing and tools to workers is an anomaly, instead workers should get all tools and helmet and shoes , except the top or shirt with company insignia, only special tools should be provid d by APUA, and the anomaly where there is not a universal accomplish title in the job description is a costly deficit for APUA, around the USA or worldwide a worker becomes a journey technician, then are given responsible allowances to be foreman and supervisor, so it can have time limits and rotational opportunity between other staffs, there by raising morales and productivity and keep all staff rounded since the dead end and apathy created by waiting on attrition by age or death of a co- worker in order to climb the ladder and increase your income, Apua is still operating as though it’s a colonial corporation during British rule, all those old restrictions should go away, allow people to drill their own wells for water etc and lift the burden from APUA, there is so much changes needed but our engineers are just people with job entitlement and political connections offering menial supervisory skills, mostly majoring in vindictiveness towards their subordinates who are able to challenge them without a university degree. But if Apua make these changes it will become more profitable.
