LETTER: Citizenship Applicants Frustrated by Unexpected Work Permit Requirement

1. Once agaig you have been lied to by the government you voted for, some of you will never learn, i hope you will be deported

   • You sound like a fucking ass,,,,when you or your ancestors went “west” as you like to say,,,,I wish uncle Sam would have deported them and all you who run to have kids in the USA

2. Typical island living..no communication between government departments. What can be done in a matter of minutes, take them days and sometimes months. Call government affairs office and get the full scoop in writing on that memo that was sent out. After all it was a government announcement and there has to be a memo on it. Then take that to the immigration office on your appointment.

   If you are eligible for a passport and you are not getting a CIP passport then during the time you have lived and worked in Antigua you should know in Antigua and Barbuda the ABLP who feeds on poor people.
   THE system is deliberately designed to work for the connected elites, the Nepo babies, and Party loyalist with inside connections. More often than not you got to go see the Minister who then him or her exacts their pound of flesh.
   Many fellow Caribbean nationals undercut the locals vote, to support the ABLP P who the maintain the system fr their own vested interests..
   See if your fellow Caribbean brothers and sisters did not make yourself a voting block for the ABLP, the incompetence and run around you describe would never be allowed to continue.
   Good luck to you; and I hope you come to understand as crazy and frustrating as it is. It is all driven by the politics.

4. Come on this is our country and if you have to go get a work permit what is so wrong with that, just go and get it stop the complaining. You all need everything free

     Are you incapable of understanding why the writer is complaining? Isn’t he/she trying to get a work permit as you suggest? If getting a work permit was as simple as you make it, there would be no need to complain. That seems too much for your tiny brain to take in and there was no request for a free charge either. So what if it’s ” our country”. It’s mine too, born and bred and go way back. We accept low standards as the norm and if you do not have someone to pull the right strings for you, then——tough!

5. @Cordell You forget that Antiguans love to move to America, only to go live on basement ground and feed off of the government’s food stamps, yet here are your caribbean brothers and sisters moving around – to make a living for themselves / some form of betterment.

   Mind you, Antiguans depend on Jamaica for Police Training, Medical Training, Immigration Retreats and various other things. It is despicable sometimes how the immigration department yells and gossips on the people that come for time and act all proper shocked when it’s brought up in the public. Then again, Antiguans love nobody but their own.

   I’m sure it’s because they haven’t messed with the right person why they continue with their careless practices – but their time will come.

   • @Sparkle. Thank you dear. Antigua behave like they buy this land and no-one supposed to live on it. Mind you some of them have children and relatives studying in other Caribbean islands. Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad. Now they forget. So distasteful to they own. I bet if it was a white person such behaviour wouldn’t be displayed.

     • Yes, we bought this land with our blood, and hungry bellies can’t come and thief our reparations. Guyana needs 200K workers, so the refugees who need work should go there. Antigua is full.

6. The government and the immigration office need to liaise with each other in a professional manner. One side cannot be giving out instructions and the other side just ignoring them totally and doing as they please. It’s either one or the other

7. This government lied to the our Caribbean brothers and sisters just before elections. UPP announced that if it got into power no more work permits. Gastón Browne immediately countered and said with immediate effect the citizens from Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and the Dominican Republic will not need any more work permits. The ABLP party fooled the none nationals again. Elections going to come again time waits in no man.

8. Don’t waste your time in Antigua. Guyana needs over 200K workers. Oil money flowing like water and no work permit no problem.

9. You are here by choice, please feel free to exit at your convenience.

   There laws in this country please follow them.

   The government made an election promise without doing the necessary implementation possibility. They are in the process of sorting it out.

   If you are unhappy please leave. There is no requirement for work permits in your homeland.

   Respect our Authority and know your place.
