Dear Editor,
I will be short and sweet. I attended the Melting Pot last night. It took me over 90 minutes to get in. Two gates were open. Did the Carnival Committee not expect this kind of crowd after all the hype? And was there no plan B?
Then once I got in and saw the massive crowd, I panicked. I wondered what safety measures were in place? What would people do if there was an emergency? Suppose there was a fire with all the fire effects and special effects? Suppose an electrical fire. Suppose with all the security, someone fired off a shot?
So I went in search of security and asked a uniformed Police Inspector this question. He said that as far as he knew all the gates were locked except for the entrance gates.

So my questions are this: Has Carnival City been inspected and approved by the Fire Services and NODS?
Why are there no clear EXIT signs? Why can’t we do anything the right way in this country? Why are we always having to react after the fact.
Totally disgusted.

I support this view i was flabbergasted that i waste 2 hours outside in a line when there is mutiple entrances that could be utilized. We should not be lining up while others join from the side without any care for those of us standing for 90 minutes. Then all the food stalls surround us so we were circle with fire. And 2 clear exists for for hundreds of persons. If there was an emergency we would all eat grass. One question whose idea was this….
That is a question head of Fence security Mr White in the PM office should answer, he is responsible for security at Carnival City
I asked my husband the same question when we got inside. Is only one way in n one way out?.
I thought more gates would have been used during a odd the events.
It would have been a disaster last night if there was an emergency indeed.
@faithful national, u r a dick. Notice ur name is not even capitalized. To say such thing because someone shared their opinion which infact was downright true shows ur level of dunce Ness. #SMH!!!
I pointed out to a POLICEMAN who was assign to the South West gate, that there were patrons cutting into the line 2 feet from the Entrance Gate. He told me that HE WAS NOT ASSIGN TO THAT AREA… Subsequently, I advised that it matters NOT that he was assign to the line, mark you, he was about 11 feet from the mini crowd gathered i the line cutting section…He said, his BOSS might not have listened to him in regards to braking up the scum bags cutting the line…. In short, NOTHING was done to alleviate the bottleneck created by those cutters, hence…the LONG delays.
Police are NOT doing their JOB at the ARG!!
These are very legitimate concerns and questions but like most things we pay very little attention to the safety and security protocols until something serious happens. Overcrowding at these shows can definitely lead to dangerous situations. It is the responsibility of the event organizers to ensure the safety of all attendees by ensuring crowd control measures and more are in place
The bigger issue is at the end of this letter? Why can’t we do anything right and proper in this country? Who are these people who have been put in charge? What is their training, and management experience. I say this to all political parties. Stop putting political soup drinkers in these positions. Stop gambling with our lives and future. Stop putting square pegs in round holes.
Faithful National is that all you have to offer?
Very very important the points in this article. This is the opportunity to get it right immediately before disaster strikes and then we say “IF”.
I was once invited to a restaurant at the top of twist Mall formerly Benjie’s. The setting was great, the service excellent and the food tasted amazing. I would never ever put my foot back in that place. It had one small door use as both entrance and exit.
I should have left immediately because I was I comfortable throughout. Kept looking around and planning my escape.
Another security issue at these events is the touching or patting down by the security. In this day and age no one should be touching you like that. Especially how the women are dress at these events and are searched by men as well.
So these events organizers need to hire security companies with proper equipment.
The only time they should search someone be touching someone is if they are alarmed. This has to be done with the person permission or by a police officer.
Totally agree with the writer and their concerns. Ticket and complimentary sales should have alerted the authorities. Additionally I was flabbergasted when I observed no searching of persons were conducted; this was an opportunity for so many incidents to have taken place. Thank God we were spared. Please do better. There has to be more thoughtful planning being considered for such events. Stop working in Silos and seek advice from the other islands on security measures etc for the long term. Also, carnival city is probably getting too small for such events. Time to consider another venue.
This a very important issue to rise and should be demanded to be addressed by the ones they has the authority, before a preventable disaster happens and we are mourning a crowd crushing incident or worse.
The writer signed “Totally disgusted”. THIS is what disgusts you and not the outfits that people are wearing, the weed that you’re smelling or the behavior of children and adults?? When it comes to that, then I am disgusted that you are disgusted.
Maybe there were only two entrances so they can ensure that proper security checks were done, but I highly doubt that in the event of an emergency that plans are not in place.
We have a habit of showing up for things late and then complain that its taking too long. I waited in the line but realized that it was taking this long because they were doing proper check. I moaned and groaned but hey….I am alive to tell the tale.
Whether there are 2 or 100 functioning entrances and exits, the onus is on you. If you don’t feel safe then leave. Don’t wait for shit to happen and then blame anyone.
I had an issue with the lack of restrooms. From asking one of the gate securities, the only available one were by the acb area…Ladies were and gents were seen going behind the original bathroom wall and vehicles for their restroom.
Also…visibility of securities in the crowd…no policing were taking place.
