Dear Editor,
In the midst of the ongoing vehicle scandal, I can’t help but wonder if our representatives are sleeping on the job or simply failing us?
As a long-time resident of the All Saints East and St. Luke community, I am deeply concerned about the neglect our area continues to face. I am calling not only on our Parliamentary Representative, Mr. Jamale Pringle, but also on Prime Minister Gaston Browne and ABLP Caretaker of community Mr. Lamin Newton, to take a serious look at the conditions we are living under.
Mr. Pringle, while you are focused on criticizing what the Prime Minister is doing, your own constituency continues to suffer from years of disregard. The Government’s much-promoted clean-up and beautification initiative seems to have bypassed us completely. The grass in Folley’s is overgrown, and roads within the Folley’s Housing Development have become nearly impassable, some now dead ends because of neglect.
Prime Minister Browne, Mr. Newton and Mr. Pringle, we are appealing to you. Why must residents wait until election season to receive the attention and basic services we deserve year-round? The Ministry of Works must also be held accountable, as our roads are in deplorable condition and continue to deteriorate without any visible plan for repair.LETTER: Are our representatives sleeping or failing?
We are tired, tired of waiting, tired of being ignored, and tired of promises that never materialize. It’s time for all our leaders, both in Government and Opposition, to put aside the politics and start addressing the real needs of the people they were elected to serve.

Shame to say that this is a community people dwell. It’s crazy that we allow these politicians to lie to us all day and sleep well at night. Tsk tsk tak
Mr. Pringle can lobby all he wants he is at the mercy of the ruling administration, politics in this country is winner takes all, when elections gets closer the Government will start doing lots of work in the constituency to make Lamin look like a hero. That’s the curse of politics
@ A Concerned Resident
All Saints East and St. Luke,
Who controls the Government purse? Pringle?
This is not to defend Pringle who I personally consider weak.
It’s about the common expectation that individual politicians are responsible for services in a specific community.
That concept that a political figure who is not in the ruling party, and not in Cabinet should be held responsible for conditions that are result of the ruling Government’s neglect; is the very thinking and practices that have led to pervasive corruption in Antigua.
Of course a Representative should use his or her voice and take a bully pulpit position to advocate for his Constituents as well as the Country.
Demand the services you wish from The leader of the country, the Cabinet he or she leads, and hold that person(s) responsible.
Make the Minister responsible for services in question; The Ministry and bodies who neglectful the responsibility parties.
Ask your Representative (Mr. Pringle) or who ever tgry may be; to publicly advocate to Prime Minister Browne, Mr. Newton and others who has direct access to and control the resources you need.
Politicians should not be considered philanthropists.
When you do; the moment they are in power they work to get back their money (100,000) one hundred thousand fold; and that how you aid and abet corruptions .
