The Editor,
I am writing to you today not an accusation, but with a question that weighs heavily on my mind and, I believe, the hearts of every Barbudan. It is a question born of observation, of worry, and of a deep love for our land and our unique identity.
In most recent years, we have seen a pattern: expectant mothers from Barbuda are sent to Mount St. John’s Medical Centre in Antigua to give birth.
Even in cases where a baby is born on Barbuda, the mother and child are swiftly sent to Antigua for a “check-up,” and it is there, it seems, that the birth is officially recorded. The result? These precious new Barbudans, who are the very future of our island, have birth certificates that list them as Antiguan.
At first glance, this might seem like a simple administrative matter. But is it?
When we consider this alongside our special Barbuda Land Act, which holds that our land is owned in common by Barbudans, a chilling question begins to take shape. For decades, our land has been our birthright, a foundational part of who we are. Our land is our legacy. But what happens when the very definition of a “Barbudan” becomes blurred? What happens when our children are officially deemed Antiguan from birth?
Is this an intentional act? Are we, as a people, simply overthinking a procedural quirk, or are we witnessing a subtle, strategic erosion of our Barbudan identity and, with it, our collective land rights? The hospital on Barbuda, which should be a place for us to welcome new generations, seems to serve as a waystation, expediting the transfer of our newborns to Antigua. What is the purpose of this? What is missing from our local hospital that maternity services cannot be provided safely and completely right here at home?
This is not a conspiracy theory. This is a quiet, ongoing situation that deserves a loud, public inquiry.
To the Barbudans reading this: these are our children. This is our land. Are we to stand idly by as our birthright is systematically redefined?
I urge the authorities to provide a clear and public explanation. I call upon the Barbuda Council and the people of Barbuda to demand a thorough investigation into this practice. Let us, as a community, ask the hard questions now before it is too late. Let us ensure that our children are not only born Barbudan but are recognized as such in every sense of the word. Our identity, our land, and our future depend on it.
Sincerely,
A Concerned Barbudan

Oh you Booboodans again!! Go choke yourselves on your land. The Law is the Law. The rights you claim to possess over lands in Barbuda are but a myth. No other twin island state – St. Kitts/Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – have braying asses as their mouthpiece . Enough already! Time to crawl out of your crab holes and get a breath of fresh air!
De ef**ing land is not your birth right. This is a fallacy that has been proven by historical documents and ruled on by the Privy Council. Stop the nonsense. We are one country. Antigua and Barbuda. And Barbudans correctly own land and property in Antigua because we are one country..There is no Barbudan passport. You travel on an Antiguan & Barbudan passport. So why should Barbudans have the only rights to land and property in Barbuda? What happen? Antiguans are dogs?
Once and for all the government must take decisive action on this old lie. And it is time, regardless of political affiliation, that Antiguans should raise their voices. Barbuda is a constituency of Antigua and Barbuda and contributes very little but yet gets millions of dollars more spent on it, than even the smallest constituency in Antigua. Houses in Antigua have been destroyed by hurricanes and no government built back houses but Barbudans got free houses after the hurricane. This crap has to stop. There is no country named Barbuda.
It’s high time to cut all ties with Barbuda, it’s not a unitary state…Barbuda thinks all of Antigua is theirs but none of Barbuda is for any Antiguan, even those who naval string buried is buried here, they go back many generations , yet Barbudans still treat them as foreign to them like it’s not one nation… Antigua can become a unitary state with Anguilla and Montserrat, they love Antiguans unlike our so called sister island…sad but it’s true!
This can only be argued by former slaves who must dance to the piper tune, which is Gaston and PLH and Oppenheimer over the mighty USD dollar, we are rudderless, no political ideology, we are a danger to our survival, which one a the white man lands can this person blogging whom I assume is Gaston under different names can ever touch their soil without a visa? But Gaston is assisting faithfully with the ethno aggregation of white monopoly capital domination. Foolish arguments where we curse the person instead of ideological ethos of former slaves who’s brain has been harvested to respect western hegemony ethno supremacists doctrine, they are the marionette selected to be prime minister and governor etc. Gaston is not in charge of anything, he just serve the power that be, I challenge any prime minister in the Caribbean to stand up, our centrist political ethos forced upon us by the colonials and religion don’t allow us to outright decide on using our own land or human resources for our benifit, our beach front lands or our work force must be a hand to build white wealth while we survive on pittance, I challenge Gaston to ever think nationalistic, he will never think of empowering the black souls that die to make a future for us, always must be of help to the white monopoly capital domination, after all they attend commonwealth meetings to be lectured by these global corporations.
If Barbuda was a land of white people branded as citizens of this country, Gaston couldn’t touch them, there is a parallel, he can’t touch jumby bay or mill reef. The blogger whom I think is keyboard happy is none other than Gaston under different name.
But he celebrate the disenfranchisement of barbudans who’s sweat blood and tears are in the soil.
The No 1 Asshole in Antigua & Barbuda has to be FAITHFUL NATIONAL #1. Oh and I almost forgot the number LICKSPLITTLER too
IGNORANT, BACKWARD, BRAINWASHED, BACKWARD, INSULAR BPM CULT LICKERS……
No amount of KNOWLEDGE AND FACTS can wake up the wilfully blind ones.
But LAWS are interpreted by the Court, not FEELING!!!
The lands in Barbuda are not owned by Barbudans. Barbudans do not own any land in common. The lands in Barbuda are CROWN LANDS. All crown lands in Antigua and Barbuda falls under the central Government of the day. That case about Barbudans owned lands in common was heard by the country highest and final court of appeal which is the Privy Council who reminded the trouble makers and bad minded people that Barbuda lands are intact Crown lands. That’s a done deal. Which other court can rule differently ? None. So stop the none sense and go back to school. It’s Antigua and Barbuda. Trinidad and Tobago. St Kitts and Nevis. St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
@eldread. What blood and sweat have Barbudans shed? They have had an easy life subsidized by the tax payers of Antigua. They do very little work and in the years when 60% of them enjoyed employment from the Council, most were ghost workers. Those that did bother to sign in never went back to work after lunch but sat under trees gambling, drinking and smoking weed. That was the life style. So let’s get real. I remember in my first visit to Barbuda in 1981, the population was largely children under 15 and elderly. The others lived in the UK and USA where they paid taxes to build those countries and only looked at Barbuda as their retirement. That is why they wanted no development. They want nursing home serenity for their retirement. We are one state. One country. Antigua and Barbuda. Let the Barbudans check their passports.
@Biggs: look I hear you about the council paying people to be unproductive, I think that council should have set up financing to lend the people money to build small boutique hotel on the white sand beaches and create tax income to the council and government, then there would not have been this dependency on the council, and white monopoly capital domination by PLH, Oppenheimer and Gaston would not have taken place, they kept the people one place like the colonials did as a ghetto. I know the council didn’t get pay for the sands that Hugh marshall , Robin and Lester was shipping to the virgin islands when the FBI uncovered the cocaine buried in the shipment of sand, but if the council had really look after the people than create laziness , the lands would not be up for white occupiers today, who will continuously subject our black people to just be a hand to create white extractive wealth, but by the way “biggs” though I believe you are Gaston blogging under different names, this only happens to black people, no white people power is threatened, even mill reef or jumby bay could not be threatened by our government, a police don’t know of any crime or domestic abuse in these white enclave such as jumby bay or mill reef, the other day when they found a Spanish woman dead in mill reef, not even the powerful police or observer media reported it, they are all controlled by these wealthy white mafia’s who they tip toe around.
Black people deserve human dignity and should be able to proclaim after emancipation that the land is theirs, what if all the lands in freetown was to be sold to bendals people, you will have an acrimonious relationship there, people would be cursing and fighting because that’s their natal area, so to is barbudans feeling protective about their natal area though it’s under Antigua and Barbuda as one state as the court said, have a conscience, and let me say I love you as an emancipation proclamation.
Jus put dem pan wan daggalag and let their lazy asses go free. All they have done is to LEECH OFF ANTIGUA anyway.
They want to be spoiled rotten, pampered and refuse to work for what they want in life
Gaston Browne posts in his name exclusively. No fake names for Gassy Dread. I endorse the sentiments of all those patriots who attacked this nonsensical, ignorant article that is mired in lies and deception.
As stated by the other writers, there is no such legal construct of ownership in common. All of the lands on Barbuda belong to the Crown. This is a settled matter, determined at the level of the Privy Council.
Within the next 30 days, upon the completion of the survey at Luis Hill, we will commence the sale of land in Barbuda.
All Antiguans & Barbudans will be eligible however, the indigenous Barbudans will receive their plot for $1.00, while Antiguans will pay market value.
It’s instructive that Antiguans are asserting and defending their legal right to acquire land in Barbuda.
Your tactic to focus on demonizing Gaston Browne had lost currency. The people are now rising up against your lies and irresponsible actions.
The truth about the land has now taken root, dispelling the myth and downright lie about Barbudan ownership in common.
The utility of your misinformation and disinformation, for political relevance is fast coming to an end.
Your political days are numbered, as the BPM continues to slide into irrelevancy.
Trevor Walker, Mussington et al must respect our laws and should cease and desist from fomenting chaos and confusion, with their lies and deceit, to maintain political relevance.
Kindly note, that we will not be intimidated by your threats. Any irresponsible actions that threatens the security on Barbuda will be met with the full force of the law.
You are so warned.
A word to the wise is sufficient.
@gaston brown: if this is truly my prime minister who takes the time out for rebuttal to my blog, I am elated and humbled you did so, as an ordinary citizen blogging on things that I think is unjust and I have your attention it makes me feel like am part of nation building, may my ideas permiate through your consciousness, and consider the plight of our race, who has been putting the spoon at the white race mouth while our ribs are showing, examine yourself for over jubilance of power, that you think you must kick the barbudans in the @$$ and take over the lands of black people to bequeath to white power like a gold thread throughout their race unbroken. I think I have a friend because the prime minister listens to me, I am not into identity politics but only ideological politics, prime minister pull back the empowerment of white monopoly capital domination, you and your great ! Great ! Great grandchildren is not going to be rich all the days of your lives, in the vissitude of time there is different dynamics, one day your great grand will be driving or walking down that buffer zone area of PLH in Barbuda or yeda, and may be bludgeon by security guards or police when you are old and out of power. Trust me Gaston you buy property abroad and they have their covenant, and so this is dangerous what white people get to do here, they can’t do this in the USA territory or small islands that is ruled by a metropolis of USA or UK.
Happy emancipation to you prime minister and hope you have some proclamation for our race.
