Dear Editor, Antigua News Room,

Where is our stipend? I can’t believe that I have to ask for the money the government has already approved.

We, the Natural Science and Agricultural Science teachers, are given a stipend to cover minor things in our department.

However, many of us have not received any for at least 5 years and have been dipping into our personal funds.

Now, whenever we contact the treasury, we each get a different excuse or answer.

For example, I called and they said they are printing them on Friday, whereas a colleague of mine called 2 minutes after and was told they should be printing them on Wednesday.

These blatant deceptions kept happening throughout last year. We decided to contact them once again this month and were told they were sent to the Ministry of Education.

We contacted the Ministry, and their response was that we didn’t receive ANYTHING!

Who is lying? Is it the Ministry or Treasury?

Despite whomever the culprit may be, one thing’s for sure: the deception and miscommunication amongst our statutory bodies need to be addressed.

When will we once again pride ourselves on honesty, efficiency, and exemplary customer service?

Ministers and officials, I beseech thee to address the blatant deception and unpleasant behaviors we, the people, have endured.

Yours truly, A Frustrated Citizen

  1. Shame on the Ministry of Education.. isn’t it amazing!! Teachers have to hear all kinds of tra-la-la-la and beg for what is promised/rightfully theirs. Frustrated Teacher, I sympatise with you. Obviously those in authority are receiving their pay and perks or else they too might be inclined to squawk. Isn’t it sad that government employees have to endure this to retain their jobs?
He who feels it knows it.. be assured, one day the tables will turn.

  2. Gaston Browne was talking recently about UPP Leadership candidate Richard lewis not able to “run a tray, let alone a country”. Having read this particle article about another group of people being promised money from the this government, and not being paid (again), begs the question:

If the “unelected” Richard Lewis cannot run Antigua & Barbuda, why the hell has the “elected” Prime Minister been allowed to run this country down for over two terms of governance?

PAY THE TEACHERS NOW, AND STOP THE DEFLECTION ON THE MOST HONOURABLE, UP AND COMING RICHARD LEWIS …

  3. They are creating chaos, trying to frustrate the people.
The most criminal activities under this government
    The highest suicidal rate
    The highest drug use rate
The most tax collected and people can’t get pay
The most corrupt government lead by a man who idolize Hitler.
The most division in this country
The most sell out of the people resources
    The most broken promises
