An Opposition Clutching at Straws

Dear Editor,

Let me state my bias from the outset: between Gaston Browne and Jamale Pringle, I firmly believe Gaston Browne is the more competent and capable leader for Antigua and Barbuda.

For weeks now, I’ve been trying to make sense of the Opposition’s argument regarding the Alfa Nero matter—and quite frankly, I still don’t understand it.

They allege that money is missing, yet every piece of evidence shows otherwise.

The government received US$40 million from the sale of the vessel, and there is transparency in how those funds were allocated. So what, then, is the issue?

It seems to me that the Opposition is grasping at straws, pushing baseless claims in the hope that they’ll somehow gain political traction.

With water and road improvements underway, and an economy that is creating jobs, their platform appears increasingly hollow.

Lacking substantive issues to campaign on, they are seizing on anything—even flimsy narratives—to attack the government.

If the current administration continues to make tangible progress on roads and water, I believe the United Progressive Party (UPP) will face an uphill battle in the next election.

Moreover, the UPP must confront its leadership problem if it wants to be seen as a serious alternative. Until they can put forward someone who can match Gaston Browne in competence and intellect, they will struggle to inspire confidence.

We should not and will not remove a capable leader over false corruption claims. It’s simply not going to work.

ALBP for now

  1. The mere mention of a comparison between the Hon. Gaston Browne and “rape-and-scrape Jamale Pringle instantly turned me off. What an insult to the Hon. Prime Minister.
The ony common features between them are:-
    1) they are
    both Antiguans, I think;
    2) they both lead a local political party
    3) they have both been declared as “fathers”.
    ABD THAT’S IT.
HOW DARE YOU COMPARE an erudite scholar in the field of finance, economics banking with one whose greatest accomplishments were a teaching stint as a teacher of woodwork, an entrepreneur in the renting of party equipment – tables, chairs, tents etc., and a business or picking up dead dogs across Antigua! Wheel and come again if you wish to be taken seriously.

    • One steals money and all is about himself and the other could be your neighbor. What is wrong with you people? Cleaning up dog helps clean the community and renting equipment is like no different to your average hustle working people can relate to and teaching trades to built your home. Do you just walk around look at every person and be like: “Chupz look dat carpenter day man have no accomplishment in life. Chupz da cleaner gyal to dunce fu something betta?”

      WTF goes through your mind?

  2. The HON. LARS JAMALE PRINGLE is the Duly Elected leader of the UPP and the next Prime Minister.

He is young, grassroots, humble, friendly, loyal, patriotic and committed.

  3. Time will tell, but it certainly won’t be the sly fox and sore loser coz he is not a teamplayer and he is more yardie than Dadli

  4. 1. They had no claim to grab the boat.
    2. They provided to receipts to trace back all the finical record of the bill they produced you should be able to lose that final balance sheet but with the sources you can recreate that final result without any issue.
    3. Using taxes to fund their lawyers in a private case that isn’t pertaining to Antigua government just privately named person such as Gaston and Telemack. While that the same PM that bose about much money they have and that he’s a multi-millionaire

That’s the key points to the argument which I agree with. There are not false corruption claims when there is a lot of bull shit that is being done such as land grabbing in Barbuda. You can be bias all you want if you’re a established business owner you’re probably fine but regular working people and new generation are going to be ones to suffer after all the beaches are sold to hotels and all jobs revolve around tourism
My bias is towards The opposition simply because I disagree with the government economic policies and way of doing things, it only caters for the rich like all of them in the administration. UPP would be a viable step in the right direction in my eyes

  5. *V for Vendetta you have said many commendable things about Pringle except competent. I have followed your comments on ANR and certainly believe you need to have your head examined.

  6. @ Political Observer

You more need to have your head examined when you don’t know that HUMILITY trumps all, the one thing that GASTON LACKS, he is so dam pompous and arrogant, but pride cometh before a fall and a haughty spirit before destruction. Wise words.

  7. @xxx All the humility in the world cannot help you as a leader if you lack confidence, intelligence and competence and rely on others for everything you do and say. Imagine Pringle as Prime Minister with Gisele Isaac in the background pulling his strings. I am schooled in politics and know what I am talking about. Antigua and Barbuda would be in a very bad place with Pringle as Prime Minister. Wake up and smell the coffee.
