LETTER: A letter to the esteem Health Minister

Sir Molwyn

Dear Mr. Joseph,

Several months ago, I posted on ANR news portal,  an article ” why do I feel like a second class citizen in my country? “

This article had concerned a young doctor who had just returned from their studies in Cuba with the hopes that they would a get a job to fulfill their pride & dreams of helping their ageable parents and offering their civic duties to the country of their birth. Surprisingly, it was a great challenge for them to get a job.

Now, as I was surfing the internet, I was taken by surprise to bounce on this post also experienced by a young doctor in St. Kitts, who was forced to spill her guts concerning her personal experience metted out by the government of the day.

It is really sad & incomprehensible that these young professionals are treated with such  disdain & disrespect. Some of them in Antigua, to this day are still not working or are in other jobs as a substitute, just to make two ends meet.

Clearly, it is very obvious that the long waits to see a doctor, is indicative that we have a shortage of doctors at the hospital and clinics. The doctors at each medical site are overwhelmed with work. In addition, some senior doctors are leaving to find greener pastures.  Others have taken leave to go and specialize.

Yet, it seems as though our young doctors are left in the cold to face psychological depression. Why? Is this really the Economic Powerhouse that we are striving towards, just to boast on the print & electronic media that the nation has another Doctor graduating whenever such happens?

Mr. Minister, I am sure you will agree with me that someone is definitely making joke!

Alex

  1. Only those who are in the kitchen feels the heat.

I can imagine how disenchanted & disappointed these young people are, with how they have been treated in such manner by the system.

The Labour code and the constitution should really be looked at.

There too many ghosts workers, ageable persons and non-national in the employment system depriving the local youngsters a job.

  2. I can imagine how disenchanted & disappointed these young people are feeling.

The workforce is filled with non-nationals, ghost workers and ageable workers who should be to give priority to our young people.

The Labour code and the constitution needs to be looked at and be modified to accommodate the young people.
