LETTER: A Call for Change as Harold Lovell Reenters the Arena

21

Listening to a recent radio interview on WTP, host Daren Matthew Ward was able to once again highlight the fundamental flaws plaguing the UPP.

During the interview, Chairwoman of the UPP, Giselle Isaac, applauded Harold Lovell for making a bold move to reenter the political arena. She emphasized his extensive experience, which she said will undoubtedly give him the edge over young Anthony Smith in ASW.

However, when asked about Harold Lovell’s potential challenge to Hon. Jamale Pringle for leadership, she was pretty clear that there would be no leadership contest.

I recall listening to an interview Harold Lovell did with Dr. Jacqui Quinn, in which he mentioned that former PM Baldwin Spencer had contacted him, asking him to return from retirement. At this point, I think that the UPP has absolutely no clue what they are doing.

The purpose of asking Harold Lovell to return to the political scene is to at least give the UPP a fighting chance at the next general elections….at least that’s what I thought.

The other MPs on the opposition side made it clear that they refuse to go to the next election with Jamale Pringle as leader. Why then would a veteran politician like Lovell belittle himself by subjecting himself to the incompetence of Jamale Pringle?

Recently, I came across an online article stating that the UPP missed the mark by not electing Richard Lewis as leader. Again, let us not forget that the other opposition MPs all signed a letter stating clearly that they have no confidence in Jamale Pringle as leader.

If my memory serves me correctly, I recall that Hon. Anthony Smith claimed the business community refused to support the UPP during Jamale Pringle’s leadership. As a matter of fact, he (Anthony Smith) made reference to a poll that was conducted, which influenced their decision.

Dear UPP, you have once again failed to inspire the electorate of this country. Your Chairwoman’s thirst for power and her insatiable desire for ultimate control will once again lead you down a familiar path of defeat.

Your MPs have spoken, your membership has spoken, and I think it’s fair to say that your supporters are speaking. I have nothing personal against Jamale Pringle. However, if we are to have competent and experienced leadership going into the next general election, he is not it.

He was fortunate to be placed in what some might consider a UPP garrison constituency, but now it seems less certain whether that still holds. There is no comparison between PM Gaston Browne and Jamale Pringle….none. I am asking you to think with the brain that God gave you and put your emotions aside. Look at the facts and give yourselves at least a fighting chance at the next polls…. We your supporters deserve it.

  1. I believe that it is good to have a good leader leading, but because you are focusing on the person you have also failed to see the condition of this country. We need to give an opportunity to the UPP to lead, because under this administration the only thing you get is potholes.
The neglect and so bad infrastructure is beyond excuse.

  2. Nice try. Another elite gay desperado squirming it’s way to the surface in an effort to get its fellow earthworms to ditch the “Little Black Boy in favour of this Useless,Pathetic Politician – with the help of their dangerous ally Darren Matthew Ward. The unscrupulous chairMAN will, in short order throw her weight behind this ten or more times rejected politician and dump the little black boy to the bottom of the heap. She never had any use for the black bwoy; he was merely a gadget to be used to loosen a few screws until “Love ill” managed to emerge from the dumpheap which was his headquarters since his last political rejection. Remember his tactics, along with those of the ‘invincible’, now dead Tim Hector as they skillfully wrested power from the infantile Baldwin Spencer and succeeded in wielding erratic power, destroying every aspect of Antigua and Barbuda”s prospects for development. The aging, desperado, Giselle aka Jezebel is dead set on becoming the next Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda no matter the cost. This is probably what has been arranged following or even before, her enthusiastic endorsement of ‘Love ill’s’ return to active politics. Straight out of their cesspool-stained, smelly playbook.

  3. Why this writer don’t call for Molwyn, Cutie and Robin to step down. Why do we have a Senator ok Colin O’Neal some kinda Browne that works for 2’hours a day and receiving government pay while he on he radio station a complain bout serpent. Finally why is there only 5 ministers on Island while we are bracing for a storm? Study that writer

    • Molwyn, Cutie and Robin are WINNERS!!!!!! Loser Lovell has lost more elections than any politician in the region (possibly worldwide)

  4. Regardless of who you support whether its blue or red, I think we can all agree that it looks really bad when someone “has to come out of retirement” to rescue the party.

You mean no one else in the party can step up? Pringle might not be the best speaker or leader, BUT let’s call a spade a spade…he did win his seat and Harold lost. Regardless if he lost it by 1 or 1,000, he lost it and Pringle won.

Who’s next to come out? Baldwin?

PERSONALLY, I think it’s a bad move on the UPP’s part. There is too much bickering, backstabbing and too many capable people are leaving or have left. Harold left a bitter taste in our mouths….personal income tax, RRC, and ABST were all launched under his tenure AND still he took us to the IMF.

Then again…if the US can vote for the orange baboon Trump twice, why can’t Antiguans vote again for someone who shoved all these taxes up our a$$e$?

I will hand it to the UPP though…..they are trying to make a comeback, but I wonder how did they get to this place when the last election was so close. For a STAUNCH UPP member to leave and go over to a party that they HATED really speaks volumes as to what must be happening internally.

  6. If Harold Lovell return to politics to serve under Jahmale Pringle, he will be the laughing-stock of all political pundits and his peers in the region.

Even worse, if he decide to retain Giselle Isaac as chairman if he becomes leader, not only will he lose every sponsor and backer he might have collected, he will feel the wrath of the UPP membership that is eager for change.

If he does not intend to replace Pringle as leader, and after move Giselle Isaac from the chairmanship, he might just leave well enough alone and go and teach his class in Canada.
Mr Lovell, Antiguans are getting impatient and will not be kind to you if you let the nonsense in the UPP continue. You need a clean sweep of the chairman and leader and their gang of convention election stealers.

Now let’s see if you find your balls where you left them so long ago.

  7. Your membership has spoken: that membership voted overwhelmingly for Jamal Pringle.
I too listened to the interview the good lady said there is a convention coming up and anything can happen but as it is now there is no challenge for leadership.

And as to the statement of Jamal being placed in a safe sear shows you know nothing. Jamal step aside numerous times and gave other persons including Joanne Massiah the chance to run( only way she would have ever sat in those halls)
He has shown he is willing to put country over self.

Ride off of Jamal’s name !

  8. So they don’t want Pringle they don’t want Lovell. So who does the UPP rally want to lead them to the next general election?

  9. One bunch of diatribe. ABLP have never won a fair election yet, yes there are certain seats they will win but the majority they buy and what they cannot buy they tief and the Licksplittlers think that this is how politics should work, one day everything will come crashing down and there will be consequences. Oh by the way how old is Melford he’s no spring chicken either

    • oh my! You have just put the Electoral Commission into disrepute. You need to take them to court because it is ABEC that is responsible for conducting elections, not ablp!

He Was Overwhelmingly Voted As Leader & They Still Trying To Destroy The Young Man. When Plenty Ah Dem Ah Lose Dem Seat, He Keeps Winning.

As Richie Francis Says In His Song & I Will Say It For Jamale “Aryou Jus Lowe Me”. I Invite All To Listen To The Lyrics…

  12. @WAP

Didn’t you know that ABLP and Gaston OWNS Antigua Newsroom for nearly a year now?
Gaston had to finance it and that’s why it’s no longer objective but supports the ABLP now, because misery likes company.

  13. Faithful National #1, Darren Matthew Ward is 10 times the man you are and you will never reach his status in life. From time to time I have been critical of who he conducts some of his interviews, but he is not a Gaston Ass Kisser like you

  14. The worse crime rate ever in Antigua’s history, the worse the roads has ever been, missing people everywhere, they even succeeded in getting a sitting MP killed, all under this foolish administration, and here we have these ABLP fools talking?

Y’all have no damn shame whatsoever?

And trust me folks, it’s not going to get any better under this current administration, because they don’t have a damn clue about crime fighting or care two bits about it.

Look around you people… Citizens are out here afraid to go to sleep at night because of crime, and these people have the nerves to be propping up this government as something worthy of praise?

This is the most arse backwards people I have ever seen, these blind followers.

No politician is perfect, but if this current administration is it for Antigua, well God help y’all.

ABLP has been in office now for 12 long years, and does Antigua have to show for it? And don’t forget that they came into office at the most lucative time of Caribbean economy, where foreigners were investing trillions in the Caribbean, tax revenue was pouring into Antigua, Americans were opening up the bank books after a hard recession, so where is all that money GB?

    Y’all are idiots. I’m done.

  15. Ever since the return of the UPP’s “Prodigal Son” the Most Honourable Harold Lovell, the ABLP supporters, Gastonites and even party members like Chet ‘Wannabe Leader’ Green have come out to try and disparage and denigrate the former UPP and graceful leader.

However, All this tells me is that they not only view Harold Lovell as a formidable opponent in All Saints West, but they also know he will reinvigorate and restore the party, and then lead UPP to power at the next General Election.

I’m loving all the ABLP moaning and groaning.

Remember moaners, attend your own affairs before the affairs of others. As the Jamaicans would say:

“Black bud say fi im pickney fus”

More power to you Harold ✊🏾

  16. What amuses me most is that Harold is a spent shell and since he is back the Labourites are in a tizzy, the next thing they are going to do is walk with placards in St. John’s protesting hi return
