Listening to a recent radio interview on WTP, host Daren Matthew Ward was able to once again highlight the fundamental flaws plaguing the UPP.
During the interview, Chairwoman of the UPP, Giselle Isaac, applauded Harold Lovell for making a bold move to reenter the political arena. She emphasized his extensive experience, which she said will undoubtedly give him the edge over young Anthony Smith in ASW.
However, when asked about Harold Lovell’s potential challenge to Hon. Jamale Pringle for leadership, she was pretty clear that there would be no leadership contest.
I recall listening to an interview Harold Lovell did with Dr. Jacqui Quinn, in which he mentioned that former PM Baldwin Spencer had contacted him, asking him to return from retirement. At this point, I think that the UPP has absolutely no clue what they are doing.
The purpose of asking Harold Lovell to return to the political scene is to at least give the UPP a fighting chance at the next general elections….at least that’s what I thought.
The other MPs on the opposition side made it clear that they refuse to go to the next election with Jamale Pringle as leader. Why then would a veteran politician like Lovell belittle himself by subjecting himself to the incompetence of Jamale Pringle?
Recently, I came across an online article stating that the UPP missed the mark by not electing Richard Lewis as leader. Again, let us not forget that the other opposition MPs all signed a letter stating clearly that they have no confidence in Jamale Pringle as leader.
If my memory serves me correctly, I recall that Hon. Anthony Smith claimed the business community refused to support the UPP during Jamale Pringle’s leadership. As a matter of fact, he (Anthony Smith) made reference to a poll that was conducted, which influenced their decision.
Dear UPP, you have once again failed to inspire the electorate of this country. Your Chairwoman’s thirst for power and her insatiable desire for ultimate control will once again lead you down a familiar path of defeat.
Your MPs have spoken, your membership has spoken, and I think it’s fair to say that your supporters are speaking. I have nothing personal against Jamale Pringle. However, if we are to have competent and experienced leadership going into the next general election, he is not it.
He was fortunate to be placed in what some might consider a UPP garrison constituency, but now it seems less certain whether that still holds. There is no comparison between PM Gaston Browne and Jamale Pringle….none. I am asking you to think with the brain that God gave you and put your emotions aside. Look at the facts and give yourselves at least a fighting chance at the next polls…. We your supporters deserve it.

I believe that it is good to have a good leader leading, but because you are focusing on the person you have also failed to see the condition of this country. We need to give an opportunity to the UPP to lead, because under this administration the only thing you get is potholes.
The neglect and so bad infrastructure is beyond excuse.
Nice try. Another elite gay desperado squirming it’s way to the surface in an effort to get its fellow earthworms to ditch the “Little Black Boy in favour of this Useless,Pathetic Politician – with the help of their dangerous ally Darren Matthew Ward. The unscrupulous chairMAN will, in short order throw her weight behind this ten or more times rejected politician and dump the little black boy to the bottom of the heap. She never had any use for the black bwoy; he was merely a gadget to be used to loosen a few screws until “Love ill” managed to emerge from the dumpheap which was his headquarters since his last political rejection. Remember his tactics, along with those of the ‘invincible’, now dead Tim Hector as they skillfully wrested power from the infantile Baldwin Spencer and succeeded in wielding erratic power, destroying every aspect of Antigua and Barbuda”s prospects for development. The aging, desperado, Giselle aka Jezebel is dead set on becoming the next Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda no matter the cost. This is probably what has been arranged following or even before, her enthusiastic endorsement of ‘Love ill’s’ return to active politics. Straight out of their cesspool-stained, smelly playbook.
Why this writer don’t call for Molwyn, Cutie and Robin to step down. Why do we have a Senator ok Colin O’Neal some kinda Browne that works for 2’hours a day and receiving government pay while he on he radio station a complain bout serpent. Finally why is there only 5 ministers on Island while we are bracing for a storm? Study that writer
Regardless of who you support whether its blue or red, I think we can all agree that it looks really bad when someone “has to come out of retirement” to rescue the party.
You mean no one else in the party can step up? Pringle might not be the best speaker or leader, BUT let’s call a spade a spade…he did win his seat and Harold lost. Regardless if he lost it by 1 or 1,000, he lost it and Pringle won.
Who’s next to come out? Baldwin?
PERSONALLY, I think it’s a bad move on the UPP’s part. There is too much bickering, backstabbing and too many capable people are leaving or have left. Harold left a bitter taste in our mouths….personal income tax, RRC, and ABST were all launched under his tenure AND still he took us to the IMF.
Then again…if the US can vote for the orange baboon Trump twice, why can’t Antiguans vote again for someone who shoved all these taxes up our a$$e$?
I will hand it to the UPP though…..they are trying to make a comeback, but I wonder how did they get to this place when the last election was so close. For a STAUNCH UPP member to leave and go over to a party that they HATED really speaks volumes as to what must be happening internally.
